Excel help please - conditional formatting

Options
Am trying to set up a spreadsheet to help learn Spanish. So:

Column B - list of English verbs, e.g. Run
Column C - list of Spanish equivalents (to be hidden most of the time), e.g. Correr
Columns D, E & F - to be formatted so that if I enter the correct verb from Column C the cell will change to green.

I have tried my best, and tried adding extra columns to give a '1' if the same but can't manage - guessing it's because it's text and not numbers? Am sure this is possible though!

Help please.

Conditional formatting >> Use formula to determine which cells to format.

    Formula: =(D1=C1).

You can format directly the cell D, e.g. green/red background depending on the word being correct or not.
