can anyone help me with some advice please, i went online and done a credit check with two separate companies and both came back and said i didn't have enough information or credit to give me a report and suggested that i build it up by getting a mobile phone on contract i tried this and i got declined due to my credit score i also tried a store card and got declined, how do i find out what i can do or whats stopping me, i had a mobile on contract for years for my ex and when split he sold it so i got passed to debt collector and payed that way so if anything i though i would have bad credit but saying i have none anyone know what to do ? x

Make sure you are on the electoral role that always helps.
You mention having to pay a debt collector?? That would usually show on your credit history.
I suggest signing up with clearscore and noddle (both free) to check your Equifax and Call Credit files to see what they show0 -

Ill stop this myth right now, you don't have a credit score lenders, phone networks or anyone can see, only you can see it.
You also don't have a universal credit score.0 -
thanks superscrooge i appreciate you getting bak to me , i am on the electoral roll,
and yes i though that having to pay a debt collector that would mean i would definitely have a credit score to look at and see where i had to start fixing it i used i did use noddle and that said i had no credit history for them to show clearscore said i didn't have the correct details so it could not get it but i did enter the correct things so i am not waiting on experien to get back to me to see if they can get my report for me to work on ! i hope so because i want to start getting a good credit xxx0 -
sorry i am unsure what your post means, what myth are you talking about ? i asked to see my credit report and both companies said i didnt have enough of a credit file to show me but it cant b the case because i have had debt before and mobile contracts and when i try now for a store card or mobile i cannot get one due to my credit they say, so just a little confused as to what i was to do x0

It's a myth that lenders will reject you based on your credit 'score'. The 'score' is something only you will see when you get it from a Credit Reference Agency. It means very little. What does matter is the other info in your credit report, like have you had previous credit, how you handled it etc.
Which companies did you request your credit report from?0 -

Basically means lenders wont decline a facility based on a "score" they will decline either due to lack of visible credit history, which means they dont really know whether or not you pay debts or lending back because you haven't got any and they dont want to be the first to take the risk.
OR
They have seen the lending facilities you do have and arent comfortable adding to the level of outstanding or amount of lending/debt already existing on your credit file.Ex Bank Manager. Emergency Fund: £400/£20000
