First Day Covers

My late mother left me her UK First Day covers from 1953 to 2011 (latter decades were philatelic bureau versions) Inside EVERY envelope she put new unused stamps. No dealer I have contacted is interested and I am told to use the unfranked stamps and try eBay to sell the First Day Covers. Surely there is a better way?

Have a look on Ebay yourself to see what sort of prices first day covers are going for. It's not a lot.0

Nice to have - but of very little value.
For that you need rarity and these things are held by the million.0 -
Auction the collection of through a specialist auction house.0

There's a tendency for those who used to collect stamps in the 1970s to think they must be really valuable, because in those days a great many collected them and they were a good investment, wrt how quickly they increased in value. Nowadays hardly anyone bothers, not least as kids have cooler & more hi-tech hobbies etc ... hence they're not really worth much at all.
Agree with the comments so far, that the best way to determine their true value would be to check eBay. Forget the stamp catalogues.
Some of the older FDCs may be worth a few quid and hence best sold individually; others you may wish to sell as job lots. Or you could simply start collecting them yourself :-)
Good luck!0 -
Suggest contacting the philatelic bureau directly. They can put you in touch with people who will give you honest valuations and may offer to buy them. This is what I did with my late father's first day covers and stamp albums.0

While clearing out my parents attic I recently found my collection of first day covers from the 1970s and 80s. I was quite excited until I checked on Ebay and found that they weren't worth much at all as there are so many of them in circulation.0
