When to apply?

Following on from a previous thread, I've £2500 on a vanquis credit card paying high interest, ive applied for a 0% card but have only been given a £1000 limit, should I apply for another 0% card now whilst the new cards account isn't showing on my credit file or should I wait?

  • Apply now, and if declined, give it another 3 months.

My new card is with Halifax, I tried an eligibility calculater and it says that Lloyd and Barclays are other cards I should have a good chance of getting, are those two linked to the Halifax or should I be ok applying for them too?
  • Halifax are not linked to Barclays or Lloyds

You could try MBNA plus they have eligibility checker!

Last I heard Halifax is part of the Lloyds Banking Group.

  • Apologies I checked under the banking licenses to see who was linked.

They operate under separate banking licences but they are part of the same group.

Apply again immediately but if declined do NOT make a third application.
Avoid Lloyds as same banking group.

I've applied for Halifax and Lloyds and managed to get both, however they both have £1000 limits so I still have about £500 I need to balance transfer so I can get rid of my Vanquis card. Should I apply for another card now or wait a few months?

Ouch! I have an aversion to more than one same product from different banks in the same banking group. That's reinforced when I read right here on MSE how each bank in the Lloyds Group co-operate to the extent that when one bank cancels a product all products at the other banks are cancelled too. Lloyds Group is getting quite a reputation for doing that.

Should you apply now? If you have only two searches on your credit history go ahead. If you have three searches wait 6 months. Depends on the lender though.

Not sure what you mean when you said about a bank cancelling a product and others doing the same? Still considering whether to apply for another card but like you said, don't want my credit rating to be affected too much
