Nationwide FlexDirect online application keeps failing

Hiya,

I am trying to sign up for a Nationwide FlexDirect account but I keep getting the message...

"We’re sorry, but there’s a problem with our current account application system at the moment. We’re working to fix this as soon as possible. Please try again later. We’re sorry for any inconvenience this may have caused you."

It happens at the point it does a credit check. It seems to go off and check, after a few checking messages it comes back and says "done" or whatever, then "redirecting..." and hits the above.

I've done it twice now but I'm a little concerned that its messing with my credit score. Any suggestions? Does this sound like a technical system bug, or a problem with my credit score?

Thank you.

  • Have you tried on different days or times? I couldn't enter the other night via my existing online account but it worked the next morning. I've just opened five new accounts but have been declined for a second Bank of Scotland account probably due to the five recent credit checks (although I have no income as I'm a stay at home parent so was surprised I passed at all), but I suspect it's just an IT issue for you. Give them a call if it doesn't work tomorrow.

    Is it an out-of-hours application?

I applied for a Nationwide credit card in the early hours of a recent morning. The system allowed me to complete all the screens, then told me to try again during working hours.
  • Hiya. Yeah I was applying at literally the same time as posting so about 11pm.

Sounds like it might just be IT then. I'll try it again tomorrow morning.

Many thanks for the replies guys.

I had issues a while ago when applying for a Flex account. It looked as though some script on the page was not loading, causing the submission to fail. I just kept reloading the page and trying again and eventually it worked.

I was recently trying to help a family member open an account, and the process kept failing.

In the end I phoned up. Before passing the phone across I was told that it's best to use a PC and Internet Explorer. When I said I'd opened my own account some time ago using Opera on an Android tablet the staff member seemed quite surprised.
