  • I do a load everyday. There is 5 of us. I also do 2/3 loads of bedding and towels. In school holidays I try to get them to wear stuff twice and wash every other day. Drying wise I put all on line if will dry and big stuff if will partially dry. I use tumble dryer and airer too.

I really can't imagine needing to do so many loads for just a couple. It would take me about a month to do your weekly amount. Are you sure you need to change so often?

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -

  • I do a load Mon, Wed & Fri and 2 loads on Saturday (1 towels an 1 our bedding) and 1 on Sunday (ds and dd's bedding) It works a charm for us (family of 4)

We have 1 hamper for dirties on the landing and 2 laundry baskets. We carry loads down on wash days; wash and dry it, then either carry it straight upstairs to put away, or fold it into one of the baskets and carry it upstairs to pop away when the kids are asleep...but at least because it's folded nicely it doesn't wrinkle too much.

I used to wash 'as and when' but I'd end up not paying attention and would have WAY too much by the time I'd put it off for a few days. This 5 loads a week works for us without thinking.

I usually iron on Sunday evenings while we have family movie night. Win win...I get to enjoy some family time, watch a film and get a job done without really noticing. :)
  • Trick for me is to set it up the night before, when I get up for breakfast I switch on the machine. I set it to do a double spin (so shortest wash cycle followed up with a 15 min spin). Then I get to hang it up before I leave for work. IThen when I'm cooking dinner I can fold up the stuff that dries easily and put it away ( so while waiting for the kettle to boil/etc...) I don't have a washing line outside, so it's hugh up inside or on the balcony. Bed is stripped at weekend, same clothes are put back on the bed that night (though I do have a spare set if I need)

I aim to cut down on the amount of washing. I use the smallest hand towel I have for showers - mind you I can't convince OH to do the same. Underware and any sports clothes are clearly changed daily, but thinks like jeans / jumpers get quite a few wearings - more than I can convince OH to do :)

Oh don't get me wrong, jeans are worn until they get saggy or stain, I wear the same top a couple of times ( if I only have it on a couple of hours)

But I'm obsessed with tea towels. I can't use one and hang it to dry. If it's used it has to be washed. I guess that from working in kitchens where they are used to mopping spills, wiping plates, wiping hands etc, I work the same at home, a tea towl is used for anything other then drying dishes

Work clothes I can only bear to wear the once, even if im only doing a four hour shift. The smell of them would stop me wearing again

Everyday clothes I'm not too fussed on, I'm happy to wear a top for a few hours, come home hang it up and wear it again another day without washing

Just I don't like the house to Ming of dog, and my lad is very minging so most of the washing is down to him, towels and blankets and throws. Plus the cushion covers from the sofa, so yep the machine is on daily -or twice :(

Still most of it don't need ironing so I get a skivey Sunday morning, feeling no guilt whilst I soap watch 😀

  • There's 4 of us here. I seem to do one load a day. If the weathers dry it gets put on the line, if not we have to have a clothes horse in front of storage heater in living room as this is the only space we have, so I tend to put it on after tea so it's not out during the day. We have a dehumidifier which gets switched on at bed time so it doesn't disturb us if we're watching tv.
Bedding gets hung over stairs with dehumidifier on the landing. I also hang clothes on hangers and hang from bedroom door frames, much to dd's disgust, can't be helped though, if she wants her clothes dried. My kitchen is far too small for a tumble dryer, not sure if I would have one anyway even if i had the space.
  • 4 of us here - all adult size - so I try and do as much as I can during the week otherwise it gets too much. While the weather is so bad we do use the tumble drier and non-tumble stuff normally fills a clothes horse and a couple of radiators. But it isn't so much the doing of the washing, it is the sorting out afterwards that gets me down. We are lucky enough to have a utility room and we installed shelves and I have a cheap clothes rail on wheels. I keep a constant supply of hangers in there and as soon as clothes are dry they are hung up. Non hanger stuff is folded and put on the shelves and underwear is folded and put in a wicker basket. I can't remember the last time I needed to iron more than a couple of things. It really has made a massive difference to me.

  • 6 of us here. 2 adults and 4 school-age children.

I have a triple laundry sorter in my room, for whites, lights, and darks. If it isn't in the wash, I don't wash it.

I try to do one load a day. If I'm off/school holidays, the washing goes on overnight and then hung out or tumbled that morning and put away.
If I'm working the washing goes on timer and is ready for when I get in. Then either goes out on the line if nice enough or tumbled and put away.

Kids are responsible for putting their own stuff away.

I wash the same way each week, so light tops, light bottoms, darks, towels. Whites go on a long wash overnight on a Friday and then uniform is done over the weekend.

Bedding as and when I can be bothered.(bunk beds. I hate bunk beds)
