Is expensive skincare worth the hefty price tag?

Ok. So for how long is the moisturiser being absorbed then after application if it is applied on top of serum ?
Does oil absorb at all btw? I thought oil molecules are too long to penetrate into skin. Suppose extensive anecdotal evidence that after oil skin is better is enough to use it and I understand for daytime is not looking best.
I am just trying to tell sales gimmicks from genuinely useful stuff
I had a quick look on some research papers- for the transdermal absorption of oils and there is a lot of systemic absorption. However, measuring it is difficult as a lot stays in the skin as a resevoir. (dermatotoxicology klaus 2008)
However, the first question, about how much moisturizer is absorbed is harder to answer, it depends on many factors, temperature, formulation of the cream, the amount that transfers onto clothes and the amount of cream you put on.
I use oils day and night, but my skin in as dry as the sahara. I like the glow it gives my skin and keeps my foundation much better. Some people with oily skin can only use an oil after a shower. Give it a try on a lazy day around the house and see what works for you. Each person's skin is unique. However, get testers to try any oil- clinque give them a way and try it for a few applications to see if it is a "you" product.0 -
I'm finding this thread very interesting, thank you all. I've never used an oil, but I'm going to try it tonight. I have some, oh what is it called? I think it was left by my dear daughter in law when they were on a visit. There's a bit left and I put it away in the cabinet until the next visit, but perhaps I'll use it on my old skin! My daughter in law certain,y has lovely skin.“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

In other words, Don't Panic!0 -
Thank you, savingfortomorrow . It is fascinating topic , shame I have no time to do proper research on it ( just out of curiosity , for practical purposes I suppose I know as much as I need to). I did not mean systemic absorption, I meant local one. Again , purely academic interest , there is no chance I would use 2 products one on top of another, it will be good if I manage to use at least one:DThe word "dilemma" comes from Greek where "di" means two and "lemma" means premise. Refers usually to difficult choice between two undesirable options.
Often people seem to use this word mistakenly where "quandary" would fit better.0 -
I use Simple light moisturiser when the weather is warmer and Liz Earle moisturiser in the colder weather as its a bit heavier. I have dry skin generally and these two suit me fine.0

Oh I love my oils, ESP my decleor ones. A little goes a long long way
I have very delicate skin. I have seb derm, and if that flares up my skin can just pull apart and bleed. The oils keep my skin supple and sooth the soreness and keeps the dryness at bay
And although I've tried hundreds of moisturisers , it's Liz Earle for me every time. The light/ combo one suits me best.0 -
I like fairly high end
Cleanser - philosophy purity 3 in 1
Toner - lulu time bomb complexion cocktail
Serum - Prai platinum serum (got some of the no7 p&p the advanced one, to try)
Day cream - alpha-h 50 spf (the one with pommegranet in it).
Night cream - elemis pro collegen marine.
Neck cream - Prai
Eye cream - Gatineau defi lift
Exfoliator - Gatineau gommage (must try the philosophy one)
Mask - for moisture a Gatineau for deep cleaning pur minerals (m&s sell it).0 -

They are But once you get a balanced skin with them you can start making your own.
I use the ocm, I have rose hip oil which i use in times of extreme face stress. But I do tend to reach for the ready mixed decleor as its so easy. I keep an eye on eBay. Even a tiny test tube will last forever ( or at least a month )
I've used better known names but decleor does it for me. It's all trial and error0 -
