I'm not sure what you mean? I connect my ipod to my car's aux input by a cable from the headphone socket. Means i have to control it by handling the ipod - didn't think there's another way to do it.

Lots of options depends on how much you want to spend and the audio quality.

cheap audio sender to send the music from the ipod to the radio. up to aux devices that mimick cd changers etc.

Some cars (BMW Mini's included) allow bluetooth or usb connection which can be controlled from the car controls (safer as well and lessens the risk of points for messing witha mobile device, yeah yeah I know, but the courts probaly won't see it that way and have means to get the money out of you).
The USB connection in the mini was an optional extra.

I had one of these - fortunately mine already had the iPod connection - track names appear on screen and you can control it from the stereo, and the steering wheel. It was in the glovebox. If you're not into car electronics, your safest bet would be to go to your local Mini dealer, who will probably charge you around £100 to fit it. I think they might also need to code it.

I have an 58 Civic which doesnt have an input, just a 6 Disc changer socket and aux channel so bought an x-car link http://www.xcarlink.co.uk/

My old man installed it for me, runs the cable into the arm rest storage bin. No info from my iPhone appears on the screen, but i can skip tracks etc, and it charges when plugged in. it's a good alternative if you can get someone/somewhere to fit it. There seems to be a shortage of custom stereo places round where i live...
