I came upon this post loking for an answer and I recalled that I recently started buying Whiskas "canned" food, and with your advise switched back to Fancy Feast, and guess what ?...
Yup, coat is coming back in rich black again. It's taking about 2 weeks to return, but I could tell in a few days that it was turning back.
It's so nice to see, and so thanks again... from me and Annabel.

my Black and white cat used to turn brown and white in sunny weather - he did love to sunbathe! but as he got older and sicker he spent more time indoors and didnt turn brown the last couple of years of his life! so Cats, like people, Tan in the sun!0

They may look black but when in the sunlight clearly they are truly brown- it just appears as black in poorer light.
I mean, I was convinced mine was black but when she went outside for the very first time I clearly saw brown, lol.0 -
Ignoring the spammarama detour... used to have a wonderful black cat who every summer would sunbathe himself to a point veering on ginger.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0

Do you know my cat was the only one of her litter 'left' I bought her because I felt bad for her
anyway fast forward 2 years she has the most gorgeous shiny long coat, black in winter, verging on chocolate by the end of the summer, and she appears to be the darling of the neighbourhood. I assume that because they all let her in and some of them feed her :rotfl: and someone (though I don't know who!) grooms her. She's come back a couple of times looking suspiciously shiny and a bit trimmed
I should add we do grom her at homeit's just odd that she stays out for a night and comes back all fresh and lovely
Mum of several with a twisted sense of humour and a laundry obsession:o

We used to have a long haired black cat that loved to lay in the sun, every summer it went brown. I think your cat is probably fine but if its only just started to do it them I would pop into the vet just to be safe.0

Awww, she's probably making some woman living on her own ever so happy by letting her groom her. Wish someone would do it for my fluffbag, who is currently collapsed on the stairs from the heat - she gets groomed every day but still could be groomed some more. And if she got a short back and sides, she might look more like a real catI could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll0
