I wonder if anyone who has experience of this can offer some helpful suggestions.
My mother who is 93 is losing her sight but her brain is 100% and she's suffering from boredom. She's always loved reading and has said she would like us to buy her something for her birthday to listen to audio books on.
The issues I've identified so far ...
1.) She doesn't have internet / Wi-Fi although at a pinch we might be able to persuade her lovely neighbours to carry out occasional downloads if we were to go for the down-loadable route.
2.) It obviously needs to be something dead simple for an elderly partially sighted non-techie to operate ... so large easy to use controls.
3.) I'm not really sure what her favourite type of reading genre is, so a wide selection of available books would be required.
Any helpful suggestions please?

What about something like this (two links to essentially the same item):
Portable Mini Boombox Soundbox USB MP3 Player

And use it with the RNIB Talking Books service (http://www.rnib.org.uk/talking-books-service).
If you don't stay too far away from her you can also see if your local library does ebook & audiobooks, and if so you can download audiobooks and put them on USB sticks for her.0 -
