Hi All,

Our family bus will be 3 years old in 11 months and we are looking at keeping it and running it into the ground.

We have been looking online at extended warranties but am I being tight in thinking £1100 is a wee bit steep for a 3 year extended warranty?

It's a Chevrolet Orlando (or a Vauxhall)...

Being pedantic it isn't a Vauxhall but is based on a GM platform but made in Korea and Vietnam.

If that is an aftermarket warranty then it is more of a mechanical breakdown insurance than a proper manufacturers warranty.

I would be inclined to get rid whilst it still has reiduals as parts that aren't common to other GM vehicles might be expensive to buy in the future.

You simply put the money to ones side for possible repairs later on, any of the offers you see, just look for reviews, most if not all the time these policies are not worth anything to the customer.

Most warranties are quite often full of 'wear n tear' clauses.

The actual makers own will be best...if Vauxhall can offer one...but will still be an expensive product, if you never claim.

There is some good advice there, if you read through.

Probably better to just keep up maintainance and listen to your mechanic if he suggests anything is going to start costing, in the future and save the cost of a warranty, to fund this yourself.

Agree with this, these warranty companies can cover what they pay out, pay staff, pay for office space and still make a profit.

Heard of one recently where they refused to pay out on a mechanical failure because the 3 year brake fluid change was missing and the car was listed as having fsh.

The fact that the quote is £1100 indicates that the warranty company is scared of this car.

Advice on a warranty? Don't bother, just save up money to cover any costs.

I'm struggling to understand why you would write this? It's clearly a comment that causes upset and anger and yet you put it in a public forum?

Why does that comment upset and anger you? Its a lot of money for a 3 year warranty. Unless its a manufacturers one which covers parts and labour your going to find out the hard way about used car warranties.

So many claims rejected due to wear and tear.

A short lived model where spares maybe an issue as time goes on.

Just put the £1100 in a savings account and carry on with the cars normal maintenance schedule. Get ADAC cover -

    https://www.adac.de/mitgliedschaft/adac_membership/

and if anything nasty crops up you have £1100 to put towards it with out any warranty company saying no, and it will always be no.
