Cheap International Flights

Hi.

I'm new to all this and these queries may have been answered before! I've been looking at the lowest cost flights I can find (using MSE of course.) I've come across some odd things?
1. Can it really be cheaper (in the order of £200 saving) to fly to another airport in Europe, catch a flight from there back to London and join an international flight to S America for e.g. than get the same flight from London? (We are talking BA of course.)
2. If I were to take up the option of such a cheap flight can I just join the part of the flight that I really want without having to leave the country and then come back?

Thanks.

Btw if the return is say GRU-LHR-LGW-XXX and you didn't get the last sector LGW-XXX they may not be that bothered.

I know it varies based on routes etc, but if this is the acse for your flights try looking at Dublin. Reason being that dirt cheap Ryanair flights are available from most of the UK to get you out to Dublin, and there's plenty of cheap accommodation there to stop the night before your long haul journey.

In addition to Richard's suggestion, try a multi-city itinerary returning to London (i.e. DUB-GRU-LON) to save you having to travel back out to Europe at the end of the trip. Worked for me last year and still gave me a hefty saving over LON-USA-LON.

Absolutely it is cheaper to start outside of the UK Dublin is the obvious one but Scandanavia is another. In August I flew to Los Angeles from Gothenburg to London then on to LA for £270 return - the Ryanair placement flight to Gothenburg cost £20 . I had a few hours to kill in Gothenburg so I look the bus into the city and had lunch and a wander around before getting my flight back which was a bit of a bonus as I'd never visited the city before.

Not sure why you say British Airways "of course" there's plenty of other airlines and it works equally well with them too and sometimes for even less money.

these starting outside the UK flights are ok if you are taking only hand luggage and live close to an airport that flies there , I have found it cheaper to fly from the UK to places even adding the price of travelling from Cornwall to Heathrow
