Efergy energy monitor query

I am looking at an Efergy energy monitor - the e2 so please can I ask a question to anyone that has experience of these.
http://efergy.com/uk/products/electricity-monitors/e2-classic-2-0

My actual question is related to it working with the elink software - how does the monitor link to the PC/lap top and how does it transfer the data.

Ideally the product I purchase will have a real time display so I can watch what happens when I switch things on and off (how much it costs for teenager to spend 30+ minutes in the shower for instance!)
I also want to be able to analyse - and this product suggests it can work with their elink software.

Thanks

This is what I get from my Energyhive monitor which is getting info from a CurrentCost monitor. The EH hub unit is connected to my router, receives the wireless data from the CC transmitter and just sends data to EH over the internet.

I can download data from the EH server in minute, hourly and daily intervals as well as monitor it online (on the dashboard above) and on the in-home display unit.

I find this is much more useful than the previous situation where I had to download the data from the monitor unit into my laptop via a USB cable. It was a pain as I had to disconnect the power cable from the CC display unit to do it.

The EH hub also works with the Efergy transmitter and you can dispense with the in-home display if all you want is the data or to view it on your PC.

As the data is automatically collected and uploaded to the EH server (at no cost), you dont have to do anything to save the data.

You just view in on your PC over the internet or download the CSV files from the internet. However it doesn't process the data like the Efergy Elink software - you've got to do it yourself using Excel or similar

    Read the manual here

Thanks - My mistake for concentrating on the hardware descriptions and manuals - all I needed was in the software manual.
  • Get a smart meter, or just calculate your showers kilowatt hr rating, say 8000 watts ( I m guessing they are between 7 and 9000 watts )..8x your tariff dived by 2....for 30 mins in the shower..about 40p.( at 10p/kwhr tariff )

Thanks for the reply - I didn't realise smart meters allowed the consumer to view their data, I thought it was for the utilities to read remotely. Presumably they also need some sort of unit to collect the data in your home.

The shower was just an example - I would suspect that most of my major energy savings will happen in the first 2 months with a monitor.

Thanks for all the replies - I like the idea by matelodave https://www.energyhive.com/dashboard/dave

(im guessing that there is nobody at home right now Dave and that everyone left for work/school at around 8am

By the way what happens at 3/4am most days in your house? - the usage seems to jump up at this time and then again later on when I assume kettles and showers are in use.

    cheers

Yes you are right, the heating is turned down overnight but as we've got a heatpump we can't allow the place to get too cold so it kicks into life when the house temperatature drops below the set back level. It only happens on very cold nights.

The small pulses overnight are my dehumidifier kicking in & out.

Heating & hot water is wound up at about 7am and then runs all day to around 10pm. Last night the dishwasher went on at bedtime. The heating is now down for a couple of days so unless it gets everso cold I expect low consumption until Sunday.
