Praise for Healthy Pets Insurance

Options
Just wanted to say how brilliant I've found Healthy Pets to be. I've had my two cats insured with them since they adopted me in 2009 but I've never claimed before and they do say that you never know how good your insurance is until you have a claim.

My beautiful boycat fell ill in August and the vet struggled for a diagnosis. Suspecting some rare cancer, we were referred to the animal hospital in Gloucestershire and spent three months trekking back and forth up there trying to find what was wrong with him, burning through just over £3k of vet bills in the process.

Inflammatory Bowel Disease was suspected, but by the time they'd run through the tests for and ruled out every other disease known to man (and cat) he was too poorly and weak to go under anaesthetic for the bowel biopsy to confirm. My beautiful baby boy died in his sleep on 10th January. He was only 7.

Sorry - what was meant to be praise for an insurer has turned into a rather cathartic outpouring. Its still so very, very painful.

Anyway, aside from one exclusion (they took some teeth out thinking that might be part of the problem and insurance doesn't cover dental) and the 20% co-payment because he was over 6 years old, Healthy Pets didn't quibble once over my claims for tests and biopsies and scans and antibiotics and steroids and on and on... They ended up paying for about 70% of all the costs.

And then I phoned them today to settle the policy. I assumed that I would have to pay up to the end of the year, like you would on a motor policy if you make a claim. I was really surprised when they said no, the policy would just be cancelled and I wouldn't have to pay anymore, and for me to just cancel the Direct Debit. I did not expect that.

So, the point of this (extremely lengthy!) post is that I highly recommend Healthy Pets as insurance for your furbaby. They have been brilliant.

And I've just broken down in tears when I logged on to the bank to delete the DD. It felt like saying goodbye to him all over again. Is that pathetic?

*** I'm going to post this in the Praise / Vent forum too. If that's not allowed, Can someone please remove one of the posts please?

I'm so sorry you lost your cat; 7 was no age at all. My second dog died at 7 after developing cancer.

He was very lucky that he had a loving, responsible friend like you to share his all-too-brief time with. x
