But then if you look at other sites that sell them these ironing boards are rated highly, most getting averages of 4 stars, some from hundreds of reviews.

Yes I saw that too. Still, it does happen and I've experienced it with all three I've had. One day someone will get seriously injured from it.

Yes, I wasnt doubting you for a minute that it happened, or that someone could get hurt. Just saying that if you use the rubbish reviews as an argument, they may use the good reviews in their favour.

I usually use" rubbish "reviews as a possible indicator of a problem.

It wouldn't be advisable to use them as a legal argument, but as a way to choose a better product or service.
It's possible you could say others seem to have a similar issue , but it's probably the company already know and aren't going to admit it.
I also think there are many different designs and qualities of ironing board .
I think I eventually ended up buying a more expensive one after owning several rickety ones too over the years.
  • Problem is they're not exactly cheap, £50 for an ironing board isn't cheap.

I had a quick look at the Barbantia ones, then I started looking at the proper professional/industrial with steam fans built in, but I don't think I'm quite ready to splash out £400 for an ironing table just yet.

I do the same - gives you an idea on what might possibly go wrong. And also how the retailer or manufacturer might deal with issues that arise.

Tbh I wouldn't class £50 for an ironing board as expensive. More average (ie not cheap but not expensive).

Given the time frame you alluded to in your first post - that the contract was entered into at the start of 2010, its very possible you're out of time to start a claim and even if you were still within the time, its not going to be worth it.

Best case scenario is a partial refund - which after 6 years use would be peanuts. Worst case scenario, they think its lasted a reasonable length of time and you are awarded nothing and have paid out £55 minimum in court costs.
You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means - Inigo Montoya, The Princess Bride

The board I bought in 2010 and had a 5yr warranty. My wife has just gone and bought another Minky one. I'll have to cancel the order!
