Please help - newbie - advice on hospital parking fine

Hi everybody
I am new to the forum so please go easy on me!
I am a health care worker. I was asked to drop off a sample (for me) to the hospital because I have a chronic health condition and was asked to by the specialists. I parked in the staff drop off because I am staff and was dropping something off. When I got to the ward, the doctor was worried about how unwell I was and wanted to see me, so rather than it being 5 minutes, I was there for 45. I couldn't go to move my car in this time because they were seeing me / running tests. Anyway, Parking Eye have fined me. They increased the fine because even though I contacted them three times via their website and followed Martin's advice (and their website confirmed they had received my messages, they claimed I had not been in touch).
I wrote to them to decline to pay and explain the situation, but suggested, if they wanted my confidential medical notes, they should fund the cost of this.
They haven't accepted and said my 'appeal has failed' and are keeping the fine and now forwarded to some other company.
I'm not sure what to do... because this would have been a 5 minute thing and I really don't want to pay this fine. I will pay the normal £1.50 cost for parking for that time.
Please advise.

Hello, I wonder if you'd get more/ better advice if you were to post on MSE's Motoring sub board, Parking Fines, etc?
My first foray into the MSE forums was ages ago when I got whacked by a so-called fine in a car park and I posted there. The advice I got was speedy and excellent. I know that your experience was in a hospital, but I'm sure that people on that forum will still be able to advise you.
Hope this helps.__________________________________
