My problem with Robert is that he said he'd pay for the whole dinner - that up front makes him look like he's trying to buy love. Coupling that with using a voucher just makes him seem weird - he's trying to look like a big shot, but proving he isn't one.0

Why on Earth would Robert need to let his date know he was using a voucher ? If he wanted to keep it secret, he could just say to the waiter : "I'll pop across to the bar in a few minutes and pay as I want to (buy drink, buy fags, gets some change for parking meter or whatever).
Or he could of course have got some idea of how date might react during their conversation over the meal so not felt need to keep voucher secret.
Or even, if he wants a second date, say "I feel a bit of a fraud treating you to a meal and managing not to pay for it. Let's meet up for another meal next week". (and if he doesn't want a second date who cares what the date thinks of him )NE Derbyshire.4kWp S Facing 17.5deg slope (dormer roof).24kWh of Pylontech batteries with Lux controller BEV : Hyundai Ioniq50
