Cost of dialling 0560 numbers.

I know this was answered years ago, but does anyone know what BT charges for 056 numbers now?

Surely it would have been quicker to just call BT rather than register on a forum and ask the question?

    See http://www.bt.co.uk/pricing/current/Call_Charges_boo/0025_d0e5.htm#0025-d0e5

Ofcom will review 055, 056, 070 and 076 numbers, perhaps this year or next. These are the only remaining non-standard call charges.

BT just refer you to an unpenitratable document impossible to understand referred to above. BT themselves don't seem to know what these numbers are.

The link above (scroll to see the table over on the right side of the page) shows that numbers starting 056 are tariff g21.

Click the (a) in the heading to jump to the section detailing call prices.

You'll need the section for Calls Charged by Duration.

    http://www.bt.co.uk/pricing/current/Call_Charges_boo/0016_d0e5.htm#0016-d0e5

In that table (scroll to the right side of the page), look for the 'g21' entry (it's after the 'fw' entries).
  • Thanks for that Ian011, it's not exactly user friendly! How can I tell whether there are any free minutes at the weekend?

    Your inclusive allowance covers

    - calls to non-geographic numbers starting 03
    - calls to non-geographic service numbers starting 0845 and 0870.

Calls to non-geographic numbers starting 080 and to access numbers starting 116 are free (as are calls to 105, 111, 112, 999, etc).

Everything else you pay for. This includes calls to
    - geographic numbers allocated in Jersey, Guernsey, Isle of Man
    - non-standard numbers starting 055, 056, 070 and 076
    - mobile numbers starting 071-075 and 077-079 (including Jersey, Guernsey and Isle of Man).
    - non-geographic numbers starting 084 (except 0845), 087 (except 0870) and 09
    - Police non-emergency number on 101

You would have thought that calls to 101 would be free for everybody.

Calls to the police non-emergency number on 101 cost 15p per call on every landline and mobile network.

Prior to 2012 most police forces offered only premium rate 0845 numbers for non-emergency contact. At the time, these calls cost up to 18p per minute from landlines or up to 41p per minute from mobiles. After 2009 a small number of landline customers on particular call plans may have had inclusive calls to 0845 numbers but this certainly was not the norm.

A small number of police forces offered 01, 02 or 03 numbers. Most people call these numbers as part of their inclusive allowance on their landline or on their mobile. Those callers not on an inclusive call plan were paying up to 10p per minute from landlines or up to 40p per minute from mobiles.

101 was initially trialled in a couple of areas with a cost of 10p per call. When 101 properly came into service across England, between 2010 and 2012, the Home Office negotiated a fixed price of 15p per call. This is a substantial saving on the previous price that most people had to pay for calls to 0845 numbers or for non-inclusive calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers. It is an increase for those who normally call the police using their inclusive allowance, but that issue has also been taken into account.

Under the new system, the Home Office requires every police force to advertise a standard rate or free number alongside 101. Those callers who are unwilling or unable to call 101 should call the alternative number. This applies mainly to those who have an unlimited inclusive allowance of calls to 01, 02 and 03 numbers. The police website contains a complete list of these numbers.

Those callers with a limited inclusive allowance need to think carefully about what they are doing. If you have a small inclusive allowance and you need to make several calls to the police, it doesn't make sense to call an 01, 02 or 03 number if this will result in the calls consuming almost the entire allowance or even exceeding it. Instead, it makes more sense to call 101 and pay 15p for each call and keep the rest of your allowance intact for making other calls.

In the last three years only 49 people have contacted the Home Office about the cost of calls to 101.

I knew about the 15p to call 101. I didn't know about the free or standard numbers being available.

Only ever called 101 once so it wont break the bank, when you have unlimted calls though why not use the inclusive numbers.

Although im changing contracts to 1500 minutes so...
