Hi Silvercar,
no we didn't have to pay for the flight, thankfully. I think the check in advisor took pity on me, as I'd been sick on the coach. It was all very stressful.
It worked out better in the end, though. :j 0 -
Glad it worked out for you in the end OP.
As you are in Belfast, would a direct flight with AerLingus ex Dub to LAX with pre clearance not have been better for you?
Just wondered.
I will never travel without pre clearance again. But then I live just outside Dublin anyway now, so that's Ace. And the price is right too when you factor in connections to the UK for a small saving.
Direct flights from DUB are amazing. I can't believe how they do it for the price. And it's Euro aswell for NI folk. Big saving there!0 -

Hope you have a great time.
Pre clearance does not operate from the UK afaik.
But from Dublin and Shannon it does.
It means that you do all the Immigration and Customs checks in Dublin Airport before departing for the US.
Wonderful. So when you disembark you are for all intents and purposes in a domestic setting, so you just pick up your bags in the destination airport and off you go!
The checks are done in Dublin, as they have a US immigration station in the airport. It is amazing.0 -

There is currently no US pre-clearance at UK airports. The only flight from the UK that has pre-clearance is the BA1 service from London City - JFK, and the pre-clearance actually takes place in Shannon during a fuel stop.
You will clear immigration and customs in Miami in the normal way. And regrettably in the case of Miami, the normal way is slowly...hope you get lucky.0 -

If you are flying DUB-LHR-MIA, then no, it doesn't (sadly, it would be great).0
