Warm Home Discount scheme - Is it repeating in 2016/17? (Scottish Power)

The WHD for this year was expected to be signed off by the end of June. I have not heard if that target was met. For British Gas we are advising we will be opening in the autumn prob end Aug / Sept. The government have said the payments this year will have to be applied by the end May 2017 rather than March as in previous years. Before anyone complains please remember that it was supposed to end last year! All I can advise is keep an eye on your suppliers websites.

I understand that the scheme is continuing to 2020/2021, however the legislation required ended in 2015/2016. It is proposed that the current year 2016/2017 will run the same as last year but the legislation for it has to pass through parliament first. This is expected to happen by the end of July.

There will then be new legislation passed to change the broader group for the remaining years through to 2020/2021.

So I guess we will all need to be patient and hopefully applications will open in the next month or so. The good thing is that we know for definite that it will continue.

I rang eON last week as I had sent off what I thought was an application in April this year, and had nothing back.

The lady said that what I had sent off was a notice of intent to apply, and they would be in touch in August regarding my an application.

I'm not in the Broader Group, but have received the £140 for the last few years, but I've had to apply each year.

British Gas informed me today, Wed 13 July 2016, that they 'will be' continuing with the scheme for a further 5 year period; so, seems it's a Government go for at least the 'major 6' energy companies.

Further news update on latest info on WHD Scheme 2016/17.


After personally phoning each of the 'Big 6', either direct to their Sales Team, or to the people who handle the WHD Scheme within each company; I have been given the 'same' statement by '5' of them. That is; the WHD Scheme 'HAS' been verified and passed for continuance by the Government, and 'WILL' run for a further '4' years; 'repeat', that is '4' years.


The 'ONLY' one of the 'Big 6' dragging their heels is 'Scottish Power', and giving out 2 excuses; [1] that the Government Dept who deal with the WHD Scheme was dissolved and swallowed up into a different Dept due to the 'shake up' by the new PM, so they are not sure if it 'will' run again for 2016/17; and [2] that they B]SP[/B have 'not' heard from the Government Dept if it 'has' been given the go ahead and they B]SP[/B have 'not' as yet been given authorisation to state it has the 'all' clear to offer it again to their present customers, or to prospective customers!


So my personal advice would be at present to stear clear of them altogether, SP that is!


If you are part of the 'core' group you will not have to apply again if your energy provider has you registered for it and you have in the past 5 years had the money added to your account.


Each of the '5' [excluding Scottish Power of course], have informed me that 'registration interest' will be displayed as information on 'all' their individual websites, either within the months of 'August' or 'September'; so everyone will need to check back with them during those months. [That is if you are a customer with any of the 'Big 6' of course]...End of News Update.

Nope, it is late this year (June) Keep looking on website but no word. I wonder why.
