Hi All
Can someone please advise me, I have a halifax basic account can i use that to switch to another bank and get the incentive from them like yorkshire bank for example.
Does basic accounts with a debit card work to be used as a switch account to an actual current account.
thanks

I think it has to be a current account0

A basic account is a current account, just with fewer facilities than a standard current account. There's no reason why you can't switch to another bank, but it's up to the new bank whether they will accept you.
If you've got a basic bank account because your credit record is poor, then other banks may not give you a standard current account, you might only be eligible for their own basic account. Yorkshire Bank and Clydesdale Bank are the only ones I know of which will pay a joining bonus if you open one of their basic accounts, -they call it the Readycash account.0 -
I'd try and convert it to a Halifax Reward current account. That way you can get £5 a month reward if you deposit £750 or more per month into it and you have two Direct Debit mandates on it.0

This gets asked about once a month and the first answer is always along the lines of 'I don't think so..'

In any case, a basic current account can be transferred - only Clydesdale / Yorkshire will give you an incentive to transfer to any of their current accounts. Others will require a standard current account as the 'to' account. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0
