Post Office Credit Card - 16 months on purchases

Hi folks,

I've just signed up for a post office credit card after following the link from the main site, I read that it said 27 months on purchases or I would just get declined... it went through all well and good apart from the fact that it has stated that 0% on purchases will be for 16 months rather than 27 months.

Any ideas on whether I can phone up and ask for it to be bumped up to 27 months?

Any thoughts greatfully appreciated

    From the Post Office website.......

27 Month Purchase Terms & Conditions
*A transaction must be made within 3 months of account opening to qualify for 0% for the first 27 months otherwise a purchase period of 0% for the first 16 months will apply

It appears that as long as you spend in the first 3 months you get 27 months. So worth querying

The OP reads that they were not offered that, they got 16 months instead (which is still pretty good.)

To the OP, phone them up and ask.

Thanks guys. It turns out that you are excepted initially for 16 months and if you spend within 3 months, you get a bonus 11 months of interest free.

If you don't spend within 3 then it stays at 16 months
  • I got all my paperwork thru for mine and it all refers to 16 months and doesn't mention 27 months. I've spent on it now just wondering what happens now, do they send out more paperwork or will it be on the next bill?
Nothing to see here, move along.

working that way round is fine.. Lloyds recently dropped my deal from 20 to 13 months on a BT deal, and have covered their bottom with the small print_pale_

I applied on Sunday and got the same thing. It showed me a credit limit and said 16 months.

I have not even had an email confirmation from the Post office though, so am a bit concerned. Every other supplier I have has sent me some sort of confirmation once I had applied. It specifically asked for my email address twice. Hopefully I will get something in the post this week

Edit- Just got my card through the post as soon as I hit send. A leaflet confirms if you spend within 3 months you get 27 months 0%.

  • Can I just ask something quick. Does this mean you have 27 months to pay off all purchases? I mean if i buy something in a years time does the 27 months still stand? Or is it only for a one off purchase?

    Am I being silly?

    Thanks

If you were to buy something in 1 years time you would have 4 months left to pay it off within the interest free period. The deal clearly states that if you do not make a purchase within the first 3 months then you only get the 0% for the first 16 months.

    Hope this helps.

The 27 months is from opening the account, not making the purchase, but it does apply to everything. Obviously as pointed out just before me, you need to make the purchase to upgrade from 16-27 months in the first 3 months, but it basically works like this.

If you opened the account today, and DID buy something before 16th June this year then you would get until June 2018 to pay for everything you bought between now and then*, so if in a year's time you then bought something you'd have until June 2018 to pay for that as well.

If you opened the account today, and DIDN'T buy anything before 16th June this year then you would get until July 2017 to pay for everything you bought between now and then*, so if in a year's time you then bought something you'd have until July 2017 to pay for that as well.

*Subject to the minimum payment rules being met each month.
