Royal Mail claim for lost mail

One of my pre Christmas items was lost in the post.
I sent in my P58 form together with all the printouts (ebay & paypal) and original proof of posting to them on 8th January.
I still haven't heard anything from them. They must have received it by 11th/12th. Do they take this long?
What should be my next step?

I would chase it up now. They are right on the deadline and I do hope you took copies (it's not unusual for them to lose the claim too).Once you’ve submitted your claim

Thank you, I just rang them. I sent mine on 8th so they would have got it on 11th or 12th. They said that they are dealing with a lot of claims so they have only reached claims received by 10th January!
I will give it a few more days.0 -
Update - finally received the cheque yesterday! They really are behind with their claims. This was for an item lost before Christmas and the claim was sent 8th January.0

A cheque? I thought RM claims are settled in stamps?0

Yes, a cheque. Even I thought they would only send books of stamps. Perhaps it was because the item lost had sold for £12? So I got 12+1.51 which is what I had paid for postage.0

I had a cheque for a lost item this week as well - for £3.15 - guess they are sending cheques out now, as the difference between that and the cost of the stamps must mount up (and I guess a lot of cheques for tiny amounts will go uncashed).0

I always got a cheque for my claims but if I claimed for the £1.10 element of signed for when no signature was obtained, I got a book of stamps that was worth considerably more than the £1.10!I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. You must put in proof of the original cost to get a cheque. And yes, they are very very behind on dealing with claims.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise.
