Is it too late to a build credit file?

Options
My wife has never had any credit and therefore has no information in her credit report.
Never had phone contract / loan / bills / mortgage, they have all been in my name.

Our house sold and we are looking to apply for a joint mortgage quite soon, (possibly even within a week if we like a house)
Is their any short term fix to improve the score? Or would applying for a credit building card, or any other credit only lower the chances?

I know there are never any sure answers with these things but any advice would be appreciated!

She is on the Electoral Register, but its worrying that Noddle/Clear Score don't find a credit file. Should it at least show that on the report?
Get this message on Noddle "We don’t currently hold enough credit information about you to be able to create your credit report for you to view."

Thanks

  • She's unlikely to build a credit history worth anything within a few months, but it's never too late to start. Who knows what she might need in a couple of years.
