Fortunately the pain was gone with a combination of drugs by yesterday morning and I was discharged @ 20:00 last night.
I feel okay today, a bit tired and sore. I may have passed the stone or it may have moved to an area that isn't causing pain. Quite an eventful few days. Big thanks to all the amazing NHS team that helped me, as ever I am eternally grateful.
Ouch! Hope you're feeling better soon.
No need for gratitude - you pay your taxes, meaning you pay into a 'communal' health insurance. Therefore your healthcare provider - in this case the NHS - should be providing your healthcareleft the forum due to trolling/other nonsense

Cystoscopy is examination of the inside of the bladder and urethra, using a fine telescope passed through the urethra. Flexible Cystoscopy is carried out using a fine, flexible, fibre-optic telescope under local anesthetic. This is often performed in the office setting or as an outpatient. Rigid cystoscopy is carried out under general anesthesia. This is often performed in the hospital or as an inpatient.0

Glad you're OK jim, I did wonder about you.
I agree about the NHS, where would we be without them.0 -
I've since been back for another CT scan, this time they injected me with dye. This showed a 4mm Kidney stone which they think I will pass naturally.
I haven't yet. The pain has gone but it has been replaced with constant discomfort and a need to pee all the time. My GP has given me some Pethidine as pain relief and I take 1-2 tablets a day, mostly in the morning.
I've had to have few days off work when the discomfort is too much. Today the hospital called and asked me to come in as they had had a cancellation and I saw the specialist. We reviewed my CT scan images and he thinks the stone is nearer 8mm and has recommended me for an operation to have it removed.
The stone has moved and there is still a chance it may pass naturally- I have about two weeks to do this before they go in.
Off to drink some more water....0 -
Hi Jim,
Did your GP refer you for the camera assessment and CT scans or a consultant at the hospital?
I have been suffering with similar symptoms to you other than no blood in my urine. I have been suffering with intense back, flank and groin pains and a constant urge to urinate (forget sleeping I just can't do it I sit up most nights until 3am+ to make myself that tired that I get an hour atleast) since end of november. Overall I am in agony and on the verge of paying for my own scans privately. I have been the GP about 7 times (just can't get an appointment with this phone at 8am business) and seen 3 different GP's. I have had an ultrasound and some blood tests but that is it. I have been to A&E after collapsing with pain but even they didn't provide an other scan just looked at the US scan carried over a month before.
I am at a loss at what to do next, never been in so much constant pain and discomfort.0 -

Wow- you have my sympathies.
Firstly I could clearly see the blood in my urine (I have since been tested and it isn't visible to me but there is still a trace of blood so I presume you have had a urine sample taken) and this kicked my excellent GP into gear instantly.
She told me that I would get a test for cancer with in two weeks as this is a government cancer target and they wanted to rule out cancer asap. I had the camera assessment two weeks later which didn't show any irregularities with the bladder(good).
The following day the pain returned to my kidney and at this point an ambulance via 111 took me to A&E. It was at this point I had my first ct scan and the kidney stone was discovered. The pain went the next day and I was discharged and told I should pass it naturally but they would invite me back for a full CT scan within two weeks.
After this second scan I had a letter a week later to tell me they have located a 4mm stone and that they still thought it would pass naturally and that it had moved from when they first located it (A&E).
By this point I was (and am still in) some discomfort but not the acute kidney pain which is similar to what you have described above, and I have missed two days of work due to the discomfort.
I often have a constant need to urinate but struggle to go (I do also have larger than I should at this age (42) prostrate which was confirmed when they used the camera- I saw it on the screen squeezing a pipe in my bladder!- modern tech, amazing!). For me it also feels like the end of my old chap has been rubbed on sand paper.
Good news! when I described the above to the specialist this week he seemed "pleased" with the symptoms and said they were all part of the process but thinks that he will have to operate to go get it.
Yesterday for four hours I had no symptoms whats so ever and thought that I had passed it during the night - The specialist did say that once you do pass it the symptoms will cease immediately, but by 11 am they had returned.
I can't fault the treatment and advice I have had from all of the NHS I have received so far, GP, 111, Ambulance service, A&E staff, CT Staff and the urology clinic but reading your post is upsetting. I am no Dr but if I were you I would call 111 right now you have nothing to lose and they are very professional.
Good luck- and I am keen to hear of your progress and I fully understand your situation. Jim.0 -
Sounds like you have had a good experience.
LOL you had 2 days off - So far I have been off work since mid January!! I had blood tests and urine tests in January, called back to do further blood tests and sent for an ultrasound that I am still waiting on the results for, the scan was undertaken in February.
My appointment with a urologist isn't until the second week of April. The symptoms and pain are daily and have been since January and getting worse including a recent trip to A&E. I had similar short term symptoms end of November but they disappeared. I constantly feel like I am on the verge of peeing myself, sleep is practically impossible as I am up most of the night back and forth to the toilet and bent over in pain. I just want to know what I have now.0 -
I was prescribed Tamsulosin to help me go and Pethidine for pain relief which is a controlled substance. I only take the pain relief when needed which so far has never been more than twice a day and zero yesterday.
I do find that when I am at home a have the use of toilet when ever I need it I drink loads of lemon squash- at least a pint an hour which I find the more I then go the more relief I get.
If I am out I tend not to drink which I find gives me greater discomfort.
Generally I have always had to wait 7 to 10 days for any test results and of course by then the stone has moved so the symptoms/ pain has changed.
My friends are constantly taking the p1ss (glad some one can) which I find the humour has really cheered me up as I can see how depressing it could quickly get.
I had a filling replaced at the dentist on Tuesday and its the first dental work I've needed for 15 years so I was a little apprehensive but I found the hole thing very relaxing as it meant I could spend 30 mins worrying about my mouth not my nagging bladder- My dentist was amazed to hear this at the end!
Is there anything you could do to occupy your mind for a short time- reorganise the kitchen cupboards?
I really hope you get some relief/answers shortly. Jim.0
