The PDSA do have a Pet Treatment Fund to help people outwith their catchment areas.

They also have Pet Aid Veterinary Surgeries where eligible people who do not live in a PDSA surgery catchment area can get treatment from a local vet. My own vet provides this service.

However, there are eligibility criteria for access to this.

You must be in receipt of a qualifying benefit and your pet must be registered with PDSA for at least 6 months beforehand.

You can check on their website whether you are eligible on their website

  • Thanks for the replies guys.
I took him to the vets yesterday, she was lovely. And he liked her which is good because he's a very shy cat.
She said his bladder is not blocked right now, she managed to Do a scan, and get some urine, so she was going to spin it for crystals to see.
She dipped his urine ( which no one had done before) and showed lactose and white blood, so he's had a anti biotic injection.
Got to take another sample in 14 days, she's going to ring me when she has the results from spinning his urine.
He no longer has dry food, that stop Christmas eve when we took him in he now has only wet food and wet treats and only fish twice a week the rest of the time Its meaty, the vet yesterday said they did food that help dissolve the crystals, so I shall be getting some.
I looked into pdsa but I don't have housing benefits.
Hopefully this anti biotic will help, he's done a bigger pee this morning, which is positive.
I refuse to give up, it's my own fault for not getting out insurance, but there strays so I didn't no much about them. I have learnt my lesson.
We thought he was a girl, he had a pink coller and everything bless him, was a surprise to find out she was a he.
I really appreciate all he help and advice guys it's been a great help.

My son's cat had to have an emergency op because of crystals and the vet said that he should only be fed wet food in the future. The same advice was given to a friend whose little yorkie had them, too.
  • Hi, Friends of our use a company called Sweet Cures, they produce a product called Waterfall D-Mannose. It's a natural product I've personally used for myself, but I know my friends have used it successfully for their cat. It might be a cheaper alternative? They have a website you can find by searching "sweet cures" - though you could call them - in the past they have been very helpful when I've dealt with them. All the best.
