Washing machine concrete counter wieght breaking up

I noticed bits of concrete on my kitchen floor near the washing machine.

i moved it and more of was under the machine, i removed the top cover and the concrete counter balance weight is literally breaking up

Pieces are missing and there are lots of cracks throughout it.

Im thinking this is not good, as it could just disintegrate at any moment.

Its a 3 year old Indesit, I am shocked that this has done this already with only normal domestic usage.

  • I doubt the machine will have any warranty on it because, due to their price bracket, I'd expect Indesit machines to only come with a 1 year warranty.

What's the model number of the machine? With this, you may be able to buy another concrete block.

Usual reasons for the concrete breaking up are machine run with transit brackets on (it wouldn't have lasted this long though), loose bolts holding the weights or bad design so it shakes about too much. If you're asking what you should do about it then obviously a new weight, maybe new fixings, but check it hasn't hit & damaged anything else while it's been dancing about.
Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.

Overloading also can cause this, as its suspension will collapse allowing the concrete block to hit the casings.
    New machine time im afraid...

3 years out of an Indesit...it's done well.
Upgrade to Miele and they all have cast iron counterweights.

Sounds unusual to me - have had reasonable reliabilty Hotpoint/Indesit for years in a busy household. Think they have 5 year parts warranty, but it's about £90 labour for their call out, so probably not worth it!

Can you 'repair' the concrete block with copious amounts of strong duct tape or similar?

Maybe use flexible metal strips wrapped around the block and then sealed in place with duct tape.

You might get years more use from the washing machine if everything else is ok.

Our Indesit washing machine is still working perfectly after over ten years use and no repairs.
