Charged 80 pounds to return a matress from online shops

Hello,
I bought a memory foam matress from an online retailer. I didn't read the small print but had lots about 30 day money back guarantee.
I've had it two weeks, it smells awful and I haven't been able to sleep a night on it, the inside does look different to the pictures so its not the product I was expecting.
They've said I can return it but 80 will be deducted from carriage for it.
I think this is too high. It does weigh 50kg, but is foam so can be folded in half.
I don't think its fit for purpose and isn't as pictured on the website. Is there anything I can do?
They have said the matress needs to be in perfect condition and they have had some very bad reviews on amazon about customer service.

Well clearly they don't agree. I'm not so sure about the fitness for purpose angle, but if you can clearly show it's not as described then you should be entitled to a remedy under the Consumer Rights Act (CRA) 2015. If you want to return simply because you've changed your mind then you'll have to pay the return costs, if that's what is specified in the T&Cs that you've received. TBH, £80 to return a mattress seems reasonable to me.PollySouthend wrote: »Hello,

I would send them a letter before action, you do have the right to reject the item if it is faulty or is not advertised. I would give them a call first and explain the reasons for rejecting it. They might think your changing your mind.0

OP, you do not have to use their carrier.
If you can find one cheaper then use them.0
