Converting to gas

Options
Hello!

I live in a rented flat and my landlord has asked if there is anything that needs to be done in the flat such as a new kitchen or bathroom. Currently the flat is all electric which is fine, but a gas cooker would be much better. Is it a simple/cheap job to convert to gas?

Look forward to your advice!

Will

The price depends on whether you have a (current usable) gas supply to the property or not. If not it will likely be several £K to install.
  • Is there an easy way to find out if there is a supply? I dont think my neighbors are on gas either.

Unless the landlord wants to install gas heating, too, (or can wangle a grant) a new electric cooker is a more sensible request.

I was always a gas hob snob - until I actually used an electric one.

How is the all-electric flat metered-is it on E7 or single rate? How is it heated and hot watered?
There is no possible point in installing mains gas just to run a gas cooker-your LL would have to fit gas CH and DHW, which is not a small job.
If it is possibl,e it's very much cheaper to run than on single rate electricity.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
  • It is on single rate. It is not a cold flat really so use electric oil heaters when needed rather than using the storage heaters. There is an electric shower, hot water from the taps comes from the immersion heater which is timed to come on twice a day.

Why do you want a gas cooker? Seems a rather expensive, wasteful and unnecessary request just to able to toast an occasional marshmallow or puff roti.
