Issue with mouse

Hi
I am having a problem with my (HP) Bluetooth mouse that I use with my HP laptop.
On a webpage, I click on a link say, and nothing happens till I move the mouse away from the click site.
I tried this on both IE and Firefox and the same problem is there.
This didn't happen before but noticed it over the last 2 months.
Is it that the mouse needs cleaning, a software update or do I just need a new mouse?
