Accidently filled in wrong Customer Number

I was filling in a form to switch energy and accidentally used the wrong customer number and gas meter point reference number.

Is there a way to cancel the form? Should I fill in another application via MSE? Should I wait for British Gas to contact me then correct it. Please and thanks

How did you manage to use the wrong MPRN number? This means the wrong supply will be taken over. Hopefully MSE can help.

Because I moved into a new build property which had gas / electricity. I got sent through a bill in the name of the building company who set this up. So I phoned british gas and told them to change the details and set me up. They sent a new letter through with my name. But I stupidly today picked up the old bill today when filling in the info for the switch.

When you switch suppliers they don't use the customer number only the meter point number.

Thanks, it is a relief that I used the correct MPRN.

However, as I am already using British Gas for my Gas supply, I fear using the wrong customer account number may create an issue here as I am moving tariff within British Gas. Think I'll phone them later today

    Hi Tim

It'll take a couple of days for British Gas to load your application. However what I'd suggest is that you contact its specialist collective team directly to discuss the problem. That team are able to amend MPRNs on applications and should be able to check that the switch has been assigned to you.

As previously commented, I'd be surprised if the mismatch of customer numbers caused a problem - the MPAN/ MPRN is the key element in a switch.

You can call it on 0800 975 9712.

    Hope this helps.
