Removing tacky glue from a plastic bottle

Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me
I have lots of little plastic bottles they are the type of toiletries bottles you get complementary in hotel bathrooms
I've tried to remove the labels but they leave tacky glue residue on the plastic.

Can anyone recommend a way of getting this off without scratching the plastic?

I'd like to reuse them and refill them and use them for different things but they are sticky to touch now

Does anyone have any tips?

Thanks

  • Brasso gets brown tape off glass so maybe worth trying?

I know that nail varnish remover takes the horrid plaster marks off your skin, so I wonder if it work on your bottles?
Why pay full price when you may get it YS ;)

WD40 is brilliant for getting sticky stuff off things. It was the only thing that worked for me when I managed to stick all of my fingers together with super glue!

I wash out for re-use lots of plastic & glass pots & bottles.
I keep an old washing up pad (with the green scouring side) to rub away any label residue.

If that doesn't work, I put a little bit of turps substitute on kitchen roll.
This stinks though so you'll need to wash the bottle several times to get rid of the smell.

you can often get that off with sticky tape, scotch brown parcel tape is what I use, just press a bit on sticky side down and pull it back, it usually comes away easily bringing the unwanted sticky residue clean away with it and then just continue on, changing the tape for a new bit when it stops sticking IYSWIM

As strange as it sounds, I often use peanut butter to get sticky residue off - apparently the oil helps dissolve the adhesive ..... may be worth a try
