We were discussing etymology at work today. In particular the word segue. We were talking about whether the transport device Segway meant that the spelling would disappear over time.

I'm not particularly good with etymology, but do find it interesting.
Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing? Most moles are not cancerous, any doubts, please check next time you visit your GP.

Yep you're correct, I have been here now for precisely one year and two days - and still loving it ;)

    I wouldn't be surprised. :(

What's interesting , and I hadn't known this before just now, is that the brand-name Segway was apparently coined from the anglicised spelling of segue.

There are some interesting discussions about it on other forums..... here's one:

I knew I'd upset someone. Only joking about being common but do have people saying I sound like I'm on the set of Eastenders.

When I am with family I too sound like I am on the set of Eastenders, on the phone, in a restaurant, shop etc I sound like royalty.....

I had a boss once who worked on my speech and managed to finally get me to speak nicely only for me to then go on a weeks holiday spent with my nan in London, he was not best impressed when I returned and had reverted back.
We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.

Why did that boss want to change how you were speaking? Seems a bit presumptuous of him.

His name wasn't Higgins, was it? :D

Oh wouldn't it be luvverly if it were? :D

30 minutes in a taxi, chatting with the Jamaican driver, and I subconsciously started talking just like him. That singsong accent has a hypnotic effect.
No reliance should be placed on the above! Absolutely none, do you hear?
