Must be the NHS offering less, because there has never been a demand until recently.

Don;t think the comparison works, as people are keeping their NHS GP and using private GP to supplement for a more responsive service. Whereas private schools take children out of the state system.

Think I disagree with both of those:
As people get richer more demand things like foreign travel or champagne or whatever that have always been available but previously were only bought by a small elite.
If you take a private GP appointment because your NHS GP can't see you as soon as you would like or at a time to suit you then you won't use an NHS appointment, exactly the same as if your child goes to private school for a day then they are not taking up a day of state school.
    I think....

I feel a bit like a Jonah. We started off the year with a death in the family. Then our friend in Sheringham sadly committed suicide. Then DW's first cousin died from lung cancer (more accurately, from chemotherapy). Now, we have heard that our cleaner's sister in law has sadly died from Pre-eclampsia. That's all just this year.

    Please be careful, folks!

The plus point of all this is that our cleaner turned up with her little nephew in tow. Less work was done, but he is a delightful little chap, Really fun to have around. Not yet 1, but toddling around and showing interest in everything.

Doglet looked at the child and showed her teeth, so was sent to her room.

Poor people, a double whammy, to be looking forward to a new baby and then that.

I had pre-eclampsia when expecting DD, was hospitalised because of it, so in a good place when it became more critical and she was delivered 2 weeks early.

No danger of any grandchildren appearing on the GDB family horizon? I am currently enamoured of next door's toddler grandson. DD tells me I am only getting grand rabbits.

Cleaner's sister in law had post natal depression, so was despatched home to Romania to stay with parents. Sadly, their medical care is not as good, although there's no way to know whether that made a difference in this case.

Not currently, unfortunately. I think I might make a better grandfather than father. Beginning to get the hang of it, at last!
