We painted the tiles in our kitchen on moving into this house- they were bright yellow and dark blue and with a north facing room and only a small window, painting them white made it a bit lighter. However, it was a bit of a mare to do, finish wasn't brilliant, and it was only ever for a year or two til the extension was done
If an agent says it looks dated, but you are happy enough and not planning to sell, why are you listening to them? Depending on your budget, and the condition of the doors, you'd be better either replacing the doors/ handles, freshening up the paintwork or flooring or maybe redoing the tiling..0 -
Thanks everyone.
I don't think I'll be painting the tiles! I don't mind them, but can see what people mean when they are dated. They are a beigy colour and about 4 or 5 of them have a kitchen theme (gees, I've lived there 10 years, but am now writing this at work and am hardpressed to remember what's on them) like a chicken or a wine bottle on them.
I won't be doing anything till the summer when my girls are away for 3 weeks, but I think I will paint the walls, change the handles on cupboards, put upholstery on my kitchen benches (have a German style eckbank, but it's not covered in fabric) and maybe change the sink and oven (as I think my oven's due a replacement). I'm only changing the sink as every other "appliance" will be grey (dishwasher/fridge/cooker) so am doing it to match.
The only other thing I would like to do is get a trim for the worktop. When the people before us did the kitchen, they just chopped the worktop and there's no trim at the end, just ply or whatever they use to make worktops. I've looked and can't find the same colour as my worktop, so my mum has suggested a silver/grey trim to match the other grey/silver things in the room.Pink Sproglettes born 2008 and 2010

Sounds splendid!
Are the sproglettes getting any input into your plans, since they may have heard the critics & will be potent defenders if anyone dares criticise "their" ideas?
Don't try to do *too* much in their absence - child labour is affordable & a darn good pretext for and end of week takeaway!0 -
I second the 'don't paint the tiles', I've never seen that look nice and it always chips/peels.
You could replace the doors and keep the carcasses. Replace the hob cheaply if it's electric, change the flooring.“I want to be a glow worm, A glow worm's never glum'Coz how can you be grumpy, when the sun shines out your bum?" ~ Dr A.
