Road signs

I'm not sure whether this is the right place to ask this, but it's the most appropriate board I can find!

One of my best friends has an unusual surname - it's one of those silly names that's so fun to say that it quickly becomes the only way he is addressed. Let's call him Coco (it's not Coco).

In our youth, some of our friends went through a phase of collecting road paraphernalia - traffic cones, road signs, even large plastic red-and-white barriers - for decorating what we liked to think of as our edgy, rebellious bedrooms. Coco was not the biggest collector but he was the one who would often obtain said paraphernalia as presents for others.

Now we are all grown up and, in the next couple of years, Coco is approaching both his 30th birthday and his wedding to the future Mrs Coco. Coincidentally, it turns out that there is a charming little village elsewhere in the UK also called Coco (not Coco). It has road signs and a train station and everything, all plastered in "Coco". As a celebration of Coco's silly name, we would dearly like to present him with an official road or National Rail sign from Coco that says Coco on it. The problem is how to obtain it.

The options are:
  • Have a replica made - not sure how to do this (I know you can buy generic road signs from various websites but I don't know if you can have one with a specific name made up), and it sort of defeats the point of "look we went and found you this from the place that has your name".
  • Ask the Coco parish council or National Rail if we could somehow obtain a replica sign through them (paid for, of course) - think they are likely to refuse as I'd guess they would only want to provide it for approved use, which probably wouldn't include being hung on Coco's wall some 200 miles away.
  • Obtain the sign in the old-fashioned way with a screwdriver and a pair of pliers - but we're not fourteen any more, and this is a) illegal and b) rude. (We would be happy to pay any fine and costs of replacing it, but somehow I don't think that would let us off the hook.)

Any ideas of how we might be able to make this work?

  • Option 4:
Pay someone else to nick it.

    Option 5:
Take pictures of all the signs in 'Coco' each with a different mate in shot (making whatever hand gesture is common between you all) and then have them printed as large format canvasses to hang in Mr & Mrs Coco's downstairs loo/garage/man cave as appropriate.

Option 5 seems like a goer to me.

It's amusing, creative and personal in equal measure it seems to me. Also an excuse for Coco's mates to have a lads trip to the land of Coco to take the photos.*

*Obviously, I would suggest a decent camera, rather than relying on whatever phone someone has in their pocket...
