switching from prepaid to monthly bills

We are currently paying for our gas with Npower by direct debit but paying for our electricity by prepaid key with Eon. Is it possible to switch supplier and change the key meter to monthly direct debit and also switch our gas supplier so we can pay a cheaper rate for both fuels with the same supplier by direct debit.

Hi chrisandsam and welcome to the Forums.
Provided you pass an external credit check and there's no debt involved, we'll replace your prepayment electricity meter with a credit meter free of charge. Depending on where you are, we're booking these appointments round about 2 weeks in advance. Once changed, it takes approximately another 4 weeks for ours and third party systems (meter operator, regional distributor, national database etc) to be upgraded. After this, you'll be able to switch supplier.
Alternatively, you can switch supplier now and talk to the new provider to see what they do in these situations.
Hope this helps chrisandsam.

One step at a time.
For electricity, you can either get the meter changed and then switch supplier, or switch supplier with the PPM and then ask the new supplier to change the meter.

You can also switch your gas supplier if you want (check for any early exit fees), but be aware that dual fual tariffs are rarely the best option at present even after allowing for dual fuel discount.
Consult a comparison site to find the best deal(s) for you, not forgetting to check single fual options too.0
