Delayed car insurance claim

Hi, not sure if this is in the right section, but I'm a little concerned about a delayed claim on my insurance.
I'm a new driver and have only been driving for 3 years and for the first time last April 2015 I nudged a car in a car park and caused a few minor scratches on this guys wheel arch ( not his but his company's car). We swapped details and I awaited a response. I did not hear from him or his company and so figured he had written the scratches off and got if fixed with cash. I purchased new car insurance in December only to now receive in Feb 2016 a letter from a third party saying the are trying to get hold of me to sort out the insurance claim for this accident. 10 months later! Where do I stand legally? I have claimed 3 years no claim bonus on my new policy...what do I do next?

Hi, I manage our company's fleet insurance (among other things). Our broker has informed us that all incidents should be reported as the other party(parties) have three years in which to claim. I have done exactly this with regard to a bump which is not yet claimed, and which I hope is not claimed on. The reason for this is that memories fade over time.

Someone better qualified may come along to correct me, but I believe it will be the responsibility of the insuror at the time to pay for this.
