Copies of Check-In Inventory / Condition Report

Hello All,
I wonder if you could help provide me with some advice .
We are in the process of buying our first home, and are just waiting for the Local Authority searches to come back. The rest of the chain is ready, and is just awaiting our results. Needless to say we're extremely excited!
We are currently in a rented property, which we will hand in notice that we won't be renewing our contract at the end of the term once we have a completion date, as we want to ensure our landlord has advance notice of our plans to leave. We will ensure the house is professionally cleaned when we leave also, so that we can maximise the return of our deposit - plus, we have loved this house (even though we haven't loved the landlord!!!), so want to ensure its returned to its owner in good condition.
However, having gone through all of the documentation we were provided when we moved in, I can't find the fixtures and fittings and condition report from the check-in inventory that was done. I file EVERYTHING and we didn't receive a hard copy or an email copy - which I would like to use as reference for when we leave if necessary. In fact, I'm pretty certain we didn't have an opportunity to review this after the check-in inventory was done.
Is it normal not to have been provided this? I didn't think of it at the time we agreed the tenancy, and its only now that we're planning to leave that I thought of it! Can it be requested from the original letting agent? Or should we request this from the landlord?
I'm just concerned, if we don't have a copy and knowing our landlord is a bit of a nightmare generally, whether we won't be able to defend ourselves from unfair claims on our deposit (held in a deposit protection scheme).
Any advice would be greatly welcomed!
Many thanks in advance

Are you sure a check-in inventory was actually done?0

If your LL has been far from perfect why oh why are you:
A: giving any notice whatsoever?
B: Having it professionally cleaned?
The real question on your mind should be, did you sign an inventory when you moved in?
If yes: you need a copy
If no: then simply leave it as you see fit0 -
I assume the letting agent has either changed or was a tenant-find service?
You may get some joy by approaching them, so I would approach both LA and LL, requesting a copy IN WRITING.0 -

Perhaps the OP is a responsible adult who would prefer to act in a reasonable manner even if those around her/him have let their own standards slip, rather than a big sulky baby who lives their life looking to turn every scenario into a childish, point-scoring dispute purely for the sake of masking their low self esteem and empty existence?0 -

MrG you wound me so...
I was simply highlighting to the OP that he or she did not HAVE to do these things, should their morals dictate that they WISH to, that's all well and good.0 -
Thanks all - to answer the points above:
1. Yes, a check-in inventory was done. I found the communications confirming the appointment, and recall walking the property with the LA, who took photographs of existing damage to the property (any marks or stains to the carpets, etc.). However, I don't have a copy of what was produced as a result, nor have I seen this, and I don't believe therefore we could have signed it!
2. It was originally LA, however assume it was tenant-find services and initial contracts, as this has been managed by the LL since then (including renewals etc.). I have contacted the original LA via email, but no joy so far. Am sure the LL will be utterly unhelpful as usual (SIGH), but will contact him also to request a copy.
3. MrG and Guest101, thank you for the smile your exchange brought me today, whether it was unintentional or otherwise. I do realise I'm not obliged to do either of these things, however I guess I don't want to risk possible dispute over the condition of the property (due to cleanliness, which could easily be avoided). I also want to avoid sinking to the moral lows of the individual in question
What goes around, comes around - I most sincerely hope.
There is still 4 months on our tenancy, so while I'm happy to give notice we won't be renewing at the end of that, I'm not necessarily going to make him privy to all of the information about our planned departure! Otherwise, he'll be in and using the utilities like there's no tomorrow before the contracted term and our liability to pay these has even expired!!0 -
So, 48 hours on, and no response from the original LA. I guess it looks like I will have no choice but to ask for a copy of this from the dreaded LL.... *shudders* The mere thought fills me with absolute dread - as does mentioning to him that the dishwasher he provided gave up the ghost completely today. Cue home invasions at 9pm without notification, him entering the house without our knowledge while we're not here to check the situation out in-person at his convenience, and having repairmen arrive without any notification whatsoever.... with any pushback met with thinly veiled threats designed to make me feel like a terrible human being for not accommodating him....
As much as I intend to take the moral high ground, I can truly understand why others would reach the point where they wouldn't....0
