Carpet Problems

Hi all.
I ordered a carpet, with underlay and grippers a month ago. Carpet was for the lounge and hall, all the same colour. I was given one price for the entire job which I paid in full.
Day before fitting I get a phone call saying that a section of the hall carpet hadn't arrived. Told I could either wait til the missing piece arrived and do it all at once or get the lounge fitted as normal and wait for the hall to be done. Opted for lounge to be fitted as it had been cleared of furniture and couldn't live for up to a week with the furniture in the other rooms.
It's been almost two weeks since the lounge was fitted and there is no sign of the hallway getting done. I've been told it's on order but they can't give a definite date of when it's due in.
Can anyone give an indication of my rights regarding cancelling the contract? I wanted the lounge and hall to match and if it can't be done soon I'd like to go somewhere else. As I ordered both rooms as one unit, am I within my rights to get my money back and they take the carpet back? I'll pay for the underlay and grippers etc of course, and the fitting of those, just not the carpet if I have to go elsewhere.
Tia.

There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. You and your friends better batten down the hatches, because when it hits, you're all gonna wonder how you ever thought you could live so large and leave so little for the rest of us.

Did they give you a time estimate when you opted to get the lounge fitted separately? You don't mention one.
If they said 'the rest will be here in 1week' then you could start being grumpy, but if they didn't give you a timescale you can't make up your own now, 2 weeks isn't a huge delay0 -
Thanks for your reply.
The lounge got fitted on the Friday, and I got told the hall carpet would arrive probably the Tuesday or Thursday after that during the original phone call. It just hadn't been sent I was told.
I've since been to the premises to ask about what was going on. They checked while I was there and told me that it looked like the missing piece to my hall was faulty. It was the last piece on the roll, so they are waiting for another roll to be manufactured. That was due last Friday. He now thinks it might be delivered this Friday, but isn't sure. There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. So the lounge was fitted on a Friday, it's almost 2 weeks since then (assuming this Friday its 2 weeks so currently 1 week 4 days. The guy said it could be in Tuesday or Thursday, so taking the latest date it's currently 5 days late?0

Yep that's right. I'm prepared to wait longer of course, but not indefinitely. I've had to put scraps of carpet and underlay down in the hall at the minute which isn't the safest thing to do. I'm wondering what would be a reasonable timescale to give? I'm guessing a couple of weeks longer? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson. If/when the hall carpet is laid, make sure that you give it a very good examination (preferable in daylight) to confirm that it's a good colour match with the carpet in your lounge before you sign to accept that you are happy with the installation.
Even though it will be the same manufacturer and will have the same colour/pattern code, this is no guarantee that it will be identical.0 -
I will Shaun thank you. That's one of the issues I had with this too. At first the missing piece had been just forgotten and now it's coming off another roll completely. Communication between the office and warehouse seems pathetic.
The carpet hasn't arrived so it looks like it'll be next Friday at the least. If it doesn't arrive then am I within my rights to say I'm not prepared to wait any longer? I think giving them a month is adequate. I also paid by Visa debit. Does that help if I want to cancel and get my money back? There's a storm coming, Mr Johnson.
