Grant of probate - time limited ??

I have just applied for probate for my late mother's estate.
I have had a problem locating all her funds as she had got into the habit of leaving a small amount (~ £100+) in a bank/building society after the particular fixed rate deal finished, moving the rest to a new deal .She did this because she believed it would help with identity checks if she went back to the institution at a later date. I have found two such "lost" accounts by going back thru bank statements but haven't yet found any further.
What is the situation if another such account surfaces in the future? ie if they write to her old address (we have an arrangement for post to be forwarded) Will the grant of probate still be valid to release funds a year or two down the line? I'm not worried about IHT issues as her estate is well under the £325k limit

If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing
  • The grant of probate does not time out should an asset turn up some time in the future.

The Royal mail will not forward post forever, so maybe be proactive; visit any Banks or building societies with a local office with your deed of probate and ask if any accounts exist.

...the arrangement was with the new occupant not Royal Mail as we weren't impressed by their services previously !! The problem with visiting B/Socs randomly is that I live ~ 150 miles from my mother's home address plus she opened these accounts mainly by post. Thanks for help anyway - I'll try the form suggested in post by RAS

You can visit local branches as they should still be able to check.. But the lost accounts is the first step.
