O/S Daily Tuesday 9 February 2016

This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine

Morning everyone

Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x

Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.

DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.

Still dark, drying underfoot, wind died off for the moment.

Dinner last night was tortellini and ravoli in creamy mushroom and creamy tomato sauce respectively, and small breaded chicken portions, served with warm baguette. Tonight we’ll be having fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg – easy dinner after being at work all day. Work yesterday started out quite calm and quiet then just went manic – I went for my lunch break and when I got back there was customers everywhere, sitting standing and a queue at reception back to the door – and this is our quiet time! We remained busy for a good while into the afternoon and then it eased off but as we were closing we had people still trying to come in. The day flew past though. We’ll see what today brings.

DH is suffering with his knees at the moment – he has arthritis in both and 1 at the moment is really giving him some trouble, he’s too young for anything to be done (knee replacement) so we struggle along. It’s generally only a seasonal thing – but this year he’s been suffering for weeks – it seems it’s not so much the cold (as it hasn’t been particularly cold here) but the wet – and we like everywhere else just seem to have had weeks of that. I stopped off last night and picked up a tubigrip bandage just to give it a bit of support – it may not help but it’s worth a try – he takes various supplements which have helped.

Keep safe and well x

    Morning all,

Cold and pouring with rain here, im off to work at the other site which means it will be busier due to the rain.

I have to go to a meeting after work tonight too so will be late home again, OH will cook a spag bol or chili for dinner.

Need to do a wash tonight and an online shop but will see how time goes.

Really enjoyes my Makaton course and keep practicing on OH and DD who have no idea what I am saying :rotfl:it was great fun and I cant wait to start using it.

Topsy keep phoning the DR and insist on an appointment I do hope it all works out xx

    Have good days all xx
  • Good morning all,

Thank you nmic for starting us off, your DH has my sympathy. Our DD who is 47 had a partial knee replacement 2 years ago because she has severe arthritis in both knees, she of course was told she was too young for a full. She still suffers quite badly and has had to give up nursing.

Well it is quiet here, no wind thank goodness. Carol is just saying that Imogen has pulled away from our shores so that is a relief. We have had so much rain though during the past few days, roll on Spring.

We have to go to the SM today, we seem to be running out of a few things, but that isn't bad to be stocking up for the first time this year.

I stripped our bed yesterday and washed the linen but of course it had to be dried in the TD. I try not to use it often but sometimes it is essential.

Dumpling, well done on going to church, do you have any excursions planned for this week. I know you said yesterday you were feeling very low, hopefully once you become used to going out on a regular basis you will feel better and more relaxed about it. You are doing so well, take one day at a time, and courage lovely lady.

Himself has a birthday next week and I am trying to plan a meal out for us, DD and 3 DGC but it is proving quite difficult for us all to be together, I will plod on regardless.

    Have a good day all

Lainey I'm glad yesterday went well! x

Mr tru took Scampi up the hill last night, to have a run around with his mate Stripe :D I warned him before he left that I would not be clearing up the muddy mess that would be traipsed in when they got back, lol.

The wind was awful here, it took two attempts to open the kitchen door, I didn't put enough muscle into it the first time :D Then I had to struggle to close it. I decided to stay firmly locked indoors after that.

I've just written a daily list for housework. Lately I always seem to be busy (except last week, I took the week off, lol) but not achieving much. I worked off lists for everything until recently, things became habit so I did them automatically but I seem to have lost my way. Just looking at the list makes me feel more organised :D

It's not raining and I can hear birds singing! Hopefully it'll stay dry this morning, I need to get out and about for a bit.

  • Quick post as have overslept after a good night's sleep, am going to be later to work than I intended but working late anyway.

nmlc, my sympathies to your OH as I too am struggling, ugliness, one knee much worse than the other.

Must get self organised and onto a bus.

Pancake day, I have been reminded and will do them on return, I don't like them so all the more for others.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back

    Morning everyone,

Well I certainly slept well last night, one quick comfort break at 2.30 and straight back to sleep.

My DOH cooked tea last night, Meatballs and Taglitelle which was lovely, not sure how he managed to get the tom sauce everywhere mind, top of the stove looked like a scene out of a Quentin Tarrantino movie :rotfl:
Will go straight to the yard from work today so we are having baked pots with an option of toppings plus a big salad. Then tomorrow is my first day off, thank goodness, this working lark is tiring:D

Have a good day everyone, take care x

    Good morning everyone.

Yesterday turned out to be a lovely bright sunny but cold day. No rain until early evening. Not sure about today. I washed the living room windows on the outside as they were covered in salt spray. Then I moved onto the alloys on my car which were filthy.

I'm hoping to become a walk leader in the area, that'll make me get out! All the paperwork came through yesterday so I'll print it off and get it in the post today. The training is in March so fingers crossed I get selected.

One of the builders came back yesterday as there's still water coming in from the front door somewhere. They are struggling to find the gap and I'm not going to get new flooring down until it's fixed - they are really trying and getting as fed up as me with it. But then I remember RR and Elona with their major water problems and I relax about mine.

Today will be quiet I hope. If the weather is calm I'll get in the soggy garden and pick up all the scattered branches and twigs, tumbled flower pots and chairs. I'll also get the two bird boxes up on the wall now that I've got big nails.

I hope everyone has a great Shrove / Pancake Tuesday. Lemon and sugar for me!

    Morning all,

ive got some really tough questions to ask the care home manager at the residential home where Mom is this morning. I could do with some support as i'm not quite sure how i am going to handle it.

I need to print off some stuff off my pc but ive got to set up the printer first and it doesnt seem to want to play ball.:(

I do wish Mother hadnt left her affairs in such a pickle and i do wish i had been wise enough to see what was coming all those years ago.

No housework to do today, just the ritualistic vacuuming but sod it, theres only me in the house to see it.

    Onwards and forwards,

    have a great day all.

    Morning all

I have managed to get appointment with Dr to discuss appeal for ds2. Feel a bit brighter probably because it's not raining. Going to get my eyebrows threaded as I look like Edward Heath. Got a couple of bits to pick up from Argos and need some more wool to finish a blanket for dgs2 who I'm due to see next week for cuddles.

Is plans clean kitchen, Hoover and mop downstairs floors. Also washing to hang up.

Judi sending (((hugs))) and positive vibes your way. Your virtual friends are all behind you.
Redruby - after working with some autistic children I would like to learn makaton, is your course organised through work?

Have a good day everyone. Hugs if you need or want one. Take care.

    Good morning everyone :hello:

The blinds are shut but I can't hear any wind so that's good after yesterday. The girls have gone off to school ok and then I went back to bed but had awful dreams so I have given up and come downstairs.

I am still not feeling great so I have nothing planned for this week. Honestly all I want to do is lie in bed and eat toast :o. However I will get up and make dinner for everyone and be up for when the girls come home. I am making a stew for tea with some crusty breab for dipping.

I hope everything goes well at your mum's home later Judi, I offer you a ton of virtual support x
Glad your first day went well Lainey
topsyturphy, I hope your appointment goes well with the doctor and you get the help you need for your son.

Hope you all have a great day whatever you are up to, take care xx
