What is this car that was worth travelling seven hours for?

You bought it at a railway station... crazy!

Do people still buy cars in lay-bys?

    Just what I was thinking.

An odd way to buy a car, travel 7 hours to meet the seller at a train station to buy it there.

    Arfur buys car at auction.
    Puts add in paper .
Meets purchaser in an out of the way place .
    Sold .
Back to the auction buy another one and so on .
Often purchaser finds no real record of the auction buyer or seller .
This one is as old as the hills.

Can you get in touch with an agency or something in his area and ask them to knock on his door or trace him another way.

The Trading Standards office local to the seller may well have information on him. It is an offence for a trader to pose as a private seller and it is likely they may have encountered him before. Certainly worth having a word with them.

Thanks BarryBlue. The trader was not trying to pose as a private seller at all, not sure where that came from, however the Trading Standards office and Citizens Advice have been useful contacts, thanks again. This is mostly sorted now as I expected. I've got him to agree to a full refund and additionally I've insisted he send someone to collect the car from me since I don't wish to make the long journey.

And now back on the hunt for a replacement car..

It would be helpful to other MSErs if you told us how you managed to track him down and also how you were able to persuade him to agree the refund and collection of the car.
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales
