Just a thought, my gutters need replacing, but then I thought do I actually need them?
My neighbours house doesn't have any so why do I?

I've often thought they're more trouble than they're worth. It depends on the situation of course by my house is surrounded by trees so the leaves are a nuisance in the autumn. If I just had a big overhang & let the water pour onto the drive & patio, life would be much simpler. Thatched roofs don't have gutters, it's discrimination, we should start a campaign.Tall, dark & handsome. Well two out of three ain't bad.0

That was my thinking, cheers fj0 -
Thatches don't have gutters because the depth of projection at the eaves area takes the water far way enough from the wall to prevent water pouring down them.
Yes, you need gutters. water pouring down the face of the brickwork is a surefire way to cause damp.Everything that is supposed to be in heaven is already here on earth.

I have troublesome gutters; I'd love to be rid of them and I do have a pretty large overhang. But, if there were no guttering, I guess rainwater would be pouring down and landing in the same place every time and tearing up my driveway. Not to mention the fact that I may well have trouble leaving the house when it was raining heavily without getting soaked to the skin in the first two yards.
Shame. It would be less painting to do, as well!0 -

More and more I have been specifying deep-flow gutters. Changes in weather patterns seem to be bringing much heavier downpours than we used to see and gutters seem to struggle coping.
Without gutters you would most likely get more damage to brickwork and water penetration which wouldn't be a good thing.0
