Basic cash Accounts

Hi.
I've got a current account and cash isa with Santander currently. I want to be able to manage my money better and so would like to get a basic cash account that I can transfer spending money into. I asked Santander for a basic account but they refused saying if I had a current account with them I didn't qualify for a basic account but I could have a further current account. I went through all the palaver only to be told I was declined.
My question is....where can I get one from? Preferably online based as I live a 40min round trip from any banks and when I popped into a few this afternoon none would see me without an appointment.
TIA

None of the high street banks will offer you a basic account if you qualify for one of their own free full accounts.
Why do you specifically want a basic account?0 -
Clearly I don't qualify for a Santander current account account even though I have one....as I was declined.
I don't have great credit but I only want a basic account so that I can transfer money from my main account purely for spending. For example, I earn £600 and I need £300 a month for my dd's so that stays in my main account. I transfer £150 into my savings and £150 into my cash account for birthday presents, petrol etc.
I just don't want an overdraft or anything. So a basic current account would be fine....seems I can't get one with the bank I hold my accounts with and I don't want to apply to loads and leave loads of footprints0 -
Their logic makes sense to me - you have a current account so you are not eligible for the basic one - they will not open further current accounts as your credit score probably means it will cost them more to run it than they would get in fees etc.
If you really want another acount you are going to have to apply elsewhere.0 -
You have current working account that's why they did'nt allow you to open second one and declined . You should try from else where ..0
