bit of a controversial subject i know, but, having just been sent the link attached from https://www.worldtravelguide.net/spain/money-duty-free. am i right in being told that you can take 800 cigarettes duty free from spain to the uk as long as they are for personal use and this can be shown to be true by removing and smoking 3 or 4 cigarettes from each pack. having removed these cigarettes you are attempting to show they are for you as it would be unlikely that by being opened and some missing you would not be able to sell these on to anyone else.

There is no duty free so not limits between EU countries, but you are more likely to be asked questions if you have more than 800.
If you have 800 you don't need to open them and remove any. Opening packets and removing cigs wouldn't stop them from questioning you about personal use if they caught you with more.
The government website is the best place for checking on allowances.

And remember that the limit from the Canary Islands is still 200 - in spite of what they might tell you in the tobacco shops! Many have been caught out.0

as said if for your own personal use and in the EU you can bring back what you want
if you smoke 20 a day and bring back enough for a year that's 7300 cigarettes , I go away to Belgium once a year and bring bank 100pks of tobacco and been stopped twice in 10yrs told them I smoke a packet a week and I am on my way"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -

For customs purposes, the Canary Islands are outside the EU (like Gibraltar and the Channel Islands), so LadyDee is correct that the customs rules for travelling from non-EU countries need to be applied if returning to the UK from the Canaries.

Belgium is no problem, but if you brought 100 packs of tobacco from the Canary Islands and were stopped, you would not be just on your way unless the customs official was in a very good mood.0
