router and switch not cooperating with each other

Options
I have a tp link archer c2 (gigabit) and a netgear gigabit unmanaged switch. The two seem to have conflicts as every now and again the PC connected to the switch via Ethernet has connectivity issues.

It would get really slow internet and i have to reset the router.

I have reset the switch and router independantly of each other to isolate the prblem and found that when i reset the switch it doens't fix the internet dl speed (I presume LAN speed in general is problematic). OTOH resetting the router fixes the speed.

The router speed performs find via all the other options, the other PC directly connect to the router via ethernet has good speeds and so do all the devices connected via WIFI.

On he switch I only have my main PC, voip phone and printer hooked up. So I wouldn't be able to tell if the switch is providing slow internet to all devices as the other two are not speed dependant. I will check this by connecting a laptop via ethernet when it becomes problematic and d a speed test.

Restarting the PC connected to the switch does not fix the issue so I am sure it's not a software glitch on the computer.

Long story short is it common for tp-link to have issues with netgear switches?

sounds like your router is beginning to fail, or even the bb performance on the line is poor and patchy... do you have a spare router to try?

Next time it happens, go to a PC connected to the router and run a download speed test. Then do the same on the PC connected to the switch.

You can also use a freebie util called lanspeed tester lite. It dumps a file onto a share on another machine or server and tests read write speeds. Try this to test the speed of the line. Do it when its all working fine, then run it when it plays up. What model of switch is it?

oh then it definately must be the router as I used the switch with another 10/100 tp-link router which worked fine.

trouble is there are hundreds of configurations on the router, it could just be the case of chaging one of the settings to get it to work correctly.

There's nothing to set up for an unmanaged switch.

What you really need to be sure of is what you claim in the original post - i.e. one machine gives good speeds on the router while another on the switch doesn't. I doubt that will be the case. The most likely scenario is that something goes wrong with the internet connection and resetting the router fixes it. If you don't have two machines try just moving the one you find isn't working over onto the router without resetting anything.

already done, sorry if it wasn't clear. but I have 2 desktops one connected through a switch and the other connected directly to the router.

On the odd occasions the switch connected PC will be unusally slow. I do speedtest.net test on the switch connected device and i got 5mbps max download and then I do the same on the other computer connected directly to the router and it downloads at the 60mbps

After resetting the router both pcs download at the full speed.

I should note that I am a fibre customer and the vdsl box is always on and never disconnected or reset so it not due to poor internet connection, the router just manages the internet connection that is provided by the vdsl box.

Try setting the port on the archer (and the desktop PC) that is connected to the switch too 100FD (100Mbs Full Duplex) rather than autonegotiate. Perhaps you have a duplex mismatch issue.
