Hi there,
I don't work and for some years been recieving a small retirement pension. However, I am constantly using my Halifax overdraft. My problem is, every month Halifax charges my account, causing me to be further overdrawn, and the money goes through. But if any other company tries to remove a monthly debt from my overdraft, the bank rejects it, and charges me again. Why can bank take charges for themselves and leave me further overdrawn, yet refuse other companies?

Because their terms say you can't spend money you don't have, and that you will be charged fees for doing so.

I'd suggest you contact NationalDebtLine or one of the debt charities for advice. They'll be able to advise you how best to close the account and come to a repayment agreement with Halifax. You may even be able to get some of the charges refunded by Halifax as a goodwill gesture.Do you not know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?
