Basic funeral plan for 67 year old

Would like to do a funeral plan for myself. I'm a 67 year old male, would like some ideas / advice on sorting out a basic funeral plan, not a wealthy person, have looked at adverts in newspapers, Sun life etc. I can't pay up front in one lump sum, could put a £1000 up front payment and pay £50 a month max, but can't find anything who do plans like this. I'm in good health, but really that means nothing, what little money I have saved I need. Any advice appreciated...thanks

Don't touch any scheme that you pay into until you die! You could end up paying much more than your funeral will cost.

As you are only 67 and could be around for many more years, why not just put money away each month into a savings account? If you want to write a letter explaining how you would like your funeral to be arranged, do that and keep it where it will be found easily.

Try Golden Charter they do funeral plans so do CO-OP

    https://www.goldencharter.co.uk/
    http://www.co-operativefuneralcare.co.uk/pre-paid-funeral-plans/
    http://www.ageuk.org.uk/products/financial-products-and-services/funeral-plan/

Try searching funeral plans there are a few out there and most offer instalment options.

My mum had one of these but I won't recommend the company she used as they weren't very helpful at the time they were called Dignity. The bonus with this kind of policy is even though the costs of funeral rise you will always get the same level of service. my mum brought her plan for about £1000ish back in 1991 and I know her funeral cost a lot more than that by about £3000

Try http://safehandsplans.co.uk/ very similar to the above but cheaper, you can pay monthly just until the set amount is paid,it does not rise with inflation and you can make changes at any time
  • Do shop around for pre-paid funeral plans, but please ensure that you only buy from a Provider who is registered with the Funeral Planning Authority (FPA). Golden Charter etc are; Safe Hands are not. It's also important to mention that if you have a specific funeral director you want to appoint, speak to them to make sure that they can accept a plan from other providers.

If you are looking to put money aside with the specific intention that the money pays for your funeral, then a proper pre-paid plan (rather than an insurance policy or savings account) is usually a good choice because it will guarantee to cover at least the FD's charges and sometimes third-party fees as well.
