O/S Daily Monday 8 February 2016
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” is fine
Morning everyone
Birthday wishes to those celebrating a birthday, hope you have a great day x
Hugs and get well wishes to those that want/need them.
DH up and gone to work stupid early. DS1 now getting ready for work. DS2 still in his pit, will wake him shortly.
Still dark, wet underfoot, it’s really windy and started raining last night but it has stopped now, but wet and windy is the forecast for the coming days.
Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, stuffing, roasties, mash, brussels, carrots, broccoli, peas, Yorkshires and gravy – some LO’s so will incorporate them into a meal over the coming days. Tonight we’re having tortellini and ravoli in sauce and DH always moans that it’s not enough so will serve some small breaded chicken pieces with the menfolks, I’ll just stick to the pasta and sauce.
We were very chilled yesterday – I just prepped and cooked the lunch, then prepped all the pack ups – so once I’d served lunch I could chill, my bro visited my parents so the boys went to have an hour with him before lunch, we all just chilled watching the rugby or on tablets/phones etc.
Back to work today for me, hoping for a steady/busy one, then the day passes by really quickly.
Keep safe and well x

Morning all.
Just as I was dozing off after another nightmare Hubby's alarm went off...well I presume it did because the first thing I woke up to was hubby yelling at Youngest to get out of bed. Many words were spoken like 'get out of bed you lazy sod' and 'your in your 20's and I'm in my 50s you should be getting me up'. I tried to ignore it but now they've gone I'm wide awake.
Just the usual Monday morning blitz to do today but that's ok. Not sure as to make an appointment with my Gp today about this pain that doesn't feel like a typical pain if you know what I mean...I'll see how I go.
Onwards and forwards
Have a great day allThis is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
Morning ladies, woken by a combination of nightmares and the howling wind so been up and messing about since 4.
Back to work today and have a feeling of creeping doom, had my laptop here but decided not to open it. Usually when away I clear my emails a few times to lighten the load on return but this time I didn't. So it could take a while to get through those, let alone other things.
About to have a fast shower, dry hair and head off, am going to wake him indoors to drive me to the bus.
Hope everyone has a good day.I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back0 -

I always took the advice that guinea pigs shouldn't be alone to mean you shouldn't buy just one and expect it to live alone, but still had a slight panic when we were left with just one, lol. If Timmy had stopped eating I would've found him a friend immediately but he just carried on pottering about as usual. He was older so might not - probably not, according to some people - have accepted a new housemate and could attack them. He lived in the house and always had lots of attention because he was the runt so I felt sorry for him
The rain stopped for a while yesterday so we went for a walk and stayed out for just over an hour. Bit too long for Scampi, he was well behaved with everyone until the last 15 minutes when he just couldn't seem to hold it together any longerHe calmed down as soon as he was home.
Still pouring with rain here and very windy, so I'll be indoors all day. I'll get the housework out of the way first thing, then update the spreadsheets. I was going to go out to buy my net curtains and a couple of other bits and pieces but have decided to stay dry and order it all online instead. If Dunelm was in the centre of town I'd jump on the bus, but it's down by the river and I'll be soaked and blown all over the place. I've just checked delivery prices, it's 35p more than my bus fare. I'll happily pay 35p to stay warm and dryAlso need to start an online food shop.

Good Morning everyone ,kept waking up every two hours last night ,no reason why, but just didn't get a long deep sleep at all.Got up eventually at 6.00 a.m.
I keep looking out of the window as we have been forecast very strong winds, but at the moment its dry and calm. No doubt it will get windier later if the forecasts are correct
I hope not too windy as I have a journey up the M2 this morning to Bluewater where I am meeting my friend for lunch and the cinema.
I had a great birthday yesterday and got thoroughly spoiled by my family. One of the presents my eldest DD bought me was in April we are going up to London for the day ,shopping in Oxford Street in the morning (to help spend some of my birthday cash) and then we are booked into the Waldorf -Astoria for a 'posh' afternoon tea.I'm looking forward to that and will have to 'glam-up a bit '
The DGC all got me some lovely things, and the youngest Mikey found a plaque to go on the wall in my kitchen which reads 'I love you to the moon and back' which he picked out as I always used to say it to him when he was tiny, (a big grown-up 11 now and nearly as tall as me:):))
I had some lovely messages from DGS Ben who is in Amsterdam, and DGS Danny who is in Estonia.I certainly came home from my youngest DDs last night feeling very loved by all the family.
My DGD Holly is off to the US with her friend on holiday this Saturday and she phoned to say she was going into a nice shop she knows in NYC to get my present so I will have to wait a week until she comes home
Eldest DD and her OH is also off next week to NYC for their half term shopping trip, me I get to Bluewater and that's enough for me:):)
My brother Davey phoned from where he lives in France in the morning and he sounded really well.
He is coming over towards the end of the month for a week so I will see him then, and I am really looking forward to that .
Its his 75th birthday this Friday bless him, so when he comes over we will have a late celebration of both our birthdays.
I was so touched by all the messages of birthday greetings from all of my 'virtual friends ' on this site and thank you to everyone who posted them.
I didn't realise how many folk I knew, my phone kept 'pinging' yesterday with texts and I had lots of messages on F/B as well.I am a very lucky lady to know so many smashing people
Today I shall be meeting up with one of my oldest friends June whom I have known for 45 plus years, and as usual we will be nattering away as we do when we meet, lunch in John Lewis the the cinema.
She has just come back from her belated honeymoon in San Francisco. They got married in November and were due to go to paris the weekend of the dreadful shootings there.
They decided to postpone it as a sad Paris is not the place to be happy and smiling, and went for a couple of days to Jersey instead with her OH arranging unknown to her their trip to the U. S. for January
She is trying to sort out our spring break and I should find out when it will be.We usually go somewhere different in the UK in the spring for a week as her OH spends a lot of time with his job flitting around the world.
Last I heard she was looking at Leek in Staffordshire as a couple of cottages looked promising.Normally she just sticks a pin in the map and where it lands we go to.
We have had some interesting stays over the years, and we use the cottage as a base and visit stately homes and historical spots in the 30-50 mile radius of our base:) .
We both like history and love going to spots of interest. The UK is great for touring, and so far over the years we have visited the West Country ,Cotswolds ,Gloucestershire, Hampshire,Norfolk, and IoW and now its time to move northwards.
My life is nothing if not eventful:):)
Right time to stop waffling and get the kettle on
I hope everyone has a good week and keeps warm and dry
Cheers everyone

Morning everyone.
Dark still and I can hear rain. Mind you storm Imogen will be hitting the south east of Engkand, so those down there please wrap up and take care. It won't be fun.
Am at home now after my short time in Glasgow and there's a couple of rooms to dust and vacuum. Need a quick trip into the village and, if the rain stops, a stretch of the legs too.
Food is leftovers from the weekend which I brought with me so it's scraps, but lovely tasty ones.
TA - I hope the trip all goes well for you both.
Happy Monday everyone.0 -
Morning all,
Just lost a big post so rushing now,
Good lock to the TA's for today xx
Topsy hugs to you xx
Better dash, have good days all xx0 -
Good morning everyone :hello:
It's wild out here at the moment, the wind is howling and the rain is lashing down. I am worried about the girls walking to school to be honest but they have assured me they will be careful.
I got to church yesterday and it was lovely to see everyone again. I am not feeling great today though and I'm very weepy, I just need to hunker down for a little while I think. I have loaded a few new books on my kindle so I have lots to read if I want to.
We are going to have lemon chicken and egg fried rice for tea but I am cheating using a jar for the sauce. I have a tesco delivery coming this morning so I will need to unpack and put it away. I cleaned the fridge last night in preparation and I am ashamed to say I ended up throwing a few bits away. Never mind, the fridge is sparkly now.
Good luck to Mr TA, hope his treatment goes well.
Glad you had a lovely birthday JackieO
I hope you all have a great day despite the weather, take care xx0 -

Have a good day all and take care folks x0 -
Morning ((((((((((((((((((((((((hugs)))))))))))))))))))))))) if you need one.
I feel shattered this morning, just did not want to get up.
OH told me last night it was going to rain so did not put my washer on, woke up to, wind but no rain aarrgghhhh................ need to strip the bed so that will ge washed tonight regardless. Also need a quick whip round the bedroom, bathroom and loo. I did clean it Saturday before my freind came, so its not too bad. I also need to put the duster round the sitting room. The ash can was very full yesterday so I brought the ash bucket in rather than have it blown about outside, it blew about inside instead!!
TA I hope all goes well with your husbands treatment today, Jackie I thought I had wishes you a happy birthday yesterday, did not so belated happy birthday, so pleased you had a good time with your family and some nice treats to come as well. Some one, I forget who, is starting a new job, hope all goes well for your first day.
Time to hop off, OH was right it is going to rain, in fact its just started hissing down........0
